Dog-fighting!

Seeing these in action were quite fascinating. It seemed so realistic.

Spitfires- lots of them!

Damfoolman, I liked the glider- perhaps a bit blue?. I think it is a nice composition. Here's my version.

Mine are just beginner's photos - but I enjoyed the show yesterday. Lots of white Canon lenses on display.

I thought the glider pilot was unbelievably good...

Great shots!

wow, some great pics, I really like the Typhoon on afterburners, wish I'd seen the glider, that looks like there must have been one crazy boy in there.

Here's my input, a couple of Red Arrow Shots (larger versions on my website HERE (http://www.mikeyscott.co.uk/web2007/gallery_01))...

Nice Red Arrows pics - much closer than mine. How come the EXIF says that you used a 75mm focal length? Were you in Red 2??

There was a well built man and his wife standing near me with two Canon bodies, one with a 100-400 on it and the other with a massive IS prime, maybe a 500mm. I was wondering whether they frequented the forum. They seemed like regular airshow visitors.

The glider pilot was - I think - Guy Westgate from the Swift Display Team.

Andrew B I liked your Typhoon and glider photos. That glider pilot was crazy.

Littlenose - the Red Arrows were great and I liked your photos, but, I heard it was a "Flat Display" due to air traffic control, which meant they could not do the full display which was a shame.

I managed to get some of my photos onto the BBC- see the link below:

http://www.bbc.co.uk:80/kent/content/image_galleries/june_2007_gallery.shtml?2

and a couple more photos too add- That explosion was huge and they were moaning about the stray balloons on the runway!

First air display for me... lessons to remember for future, take a ton of memory cards and if you use primes, have 2 bodies and set-ups.
cheers,
Andy

Andy Bright, you have some serious gear there! Superb photos- see Marauder61 photos. Your style is similar to his. I'm now having to count my few spare pence...

Jason@MS welcome aboard. Liked your Red Arrows. Did you seriously take 1200 photos? What condition is your hard-drive in after all this?

Here's one of my Red Arrows. There was a lot of smoke.

Lol, thanks but as far as aviation photography goes, it counts for little...just look at those frozen props ;) Like I said, my first airshow experience, and a good chance to learn from my mistakes before RIAT.

Here's a couple of Arrows shots... again, steep learning cure coping with large display formations.
cheers,
Andy

Thanks, although I'm going off the first one.
On sunday I was using a 1Ds MkII and a 300mm f2.8 I.S... with and without 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.

In retrospect, I should've altered my position along the crowdline, maybe got more height ... and not just sat there with a bottle of nice red on the table :)
I'll take RIAT a bit more seriously... although a bottle of red may stil play a part ;)
cheers

Hi all,

Great shots.

First post on to the forum. Went to Biggin Hill on the Saturday. First air display with the 400D, and a Tamron 70-300. Added the BG-E3 Grip last week, which makes the camera feel a little more substantial. Anyway here are a couple of shots taken at Biggin, which I am pleased with.

Thanks,

Derrick

There's some inspiring shots on here, and I've certainly picked up a few more hints on what I'd like to get out of the next time i visit an airshow (roll on Eastbourne)

Nice Red Arrows pics - much closer than mine. How come the EXIF says that you used a 75mm focal length? Were you in Red 2??

Thanks for the kind comments, heh heh, no, not in red 2, but rather the green-10 (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mikeyandjo/zx10/DSC00218w.jpg) ;) but yep, I was a little too close, and my 75-300 was struggling, I wish that i'd taken my 28-135 along too, next time i'll know better.

Littlenose - the Red Arrows were great and I liked your photos, but, I heard it was a "Flat Display" due to air traffic control, which meant they could not do the full display which was a shame.

yeah, but it was a good show all the same... Oh and cool explosion shot... that was quite a bang as teh tornado's went over !
