Well, it looks like I won't get it until Monday. It didn't get scanned out of CDW until yesterday morning at 1am. If it reaches my hub and is scanned then I can go pick it up, but it probably will not get scanned in time and I'll have to wait until Monday.

Oh well, that's okay. It'll make the weekend less hectic...

Here's the gory details...

Take some donuts down to the local UPS hub and see if you can bribe a special delivery late this afternoon. LOL

the longer you wait, the more you will enhoy it :!:

too much wait is not very healthy though. Increases blood pressure in the brain causing stres and anxiety :P

LOL! Yeah Jeff...I wish that would help, but until it's actually scanned at the hub, they don't know the exact location of it...

cmM: I have waited this long...One more weekend won't hurt. Like I said it will actually make the weekend less stressful as I was a bit nervous going into a major shoot with no time on the camera.

However, if that baby gets scanned at my hub I am making some phone calls to see if I can snag it today!

I don't know....

Maybe it's all for the best. These are 'money shots' for you, and you probably are just as well not taking any chances on unfamiliarity with your equipment. If you were thinking of charging the battery entroute, that tells me you won't have had much time with the camera; you'd be guessing at a lot of the settings, I'm sure. I found that the controls of the Mk II were not necessarily intuitive based on my experience with the 10D, so a couple days of playing with it might ultimately be worthwhile.

You're right, though. Bummer.

OUT FOR DELIVERY

Remember what life was like before the internet? :D When it arrived, it arrived!

I ordered my 100-400 L a while back, 5 day UPS shipping, shipped on a Wednesday according to UPS Tracking. No hurry and something to look forward to ... the following week

I had decided to take Friday off to do some spring cleaning/yard work. Thought I'd check the computer while I had lunch and ... WHAT? OUT FOR DELIVERY?

Decided I'd spend the little time I had left before it arrived cleaning the front yard, even though it was already done. Every car or truck I heard coming down the road I dropped the rake and ran to the road ... Reminded me of the Ice Cream truck when I was a kid.

One of these days I'm gonna get the yard work done. In the meantime, I don't want to waste my strength and save that for lugging around the 100-400

Tom: Yeah. I've been kinda nervous about that. Being on a shoot with a new camera. But, if I get it, I'll tough it out. I'll set it too...

UPS just called..I will get it sometime today no matter what...Even if I pick it up at the hub I can get it today.

So, I'll be the newb out there tomorrow at the track. Wife will shoot the 10D. Who knows, she might get the money winners this weekend. I'd be proud and equally happy either way.

John: That's so true. I can hear a UPS truck about 3-4 miles away! Especially when I'm expecting a package.

2new: Looks like God is going to deliver... :D

Anyway Tom, I'll just set the camera to the SI settings, shoot shutter priority, fast AI Servo and call it good. No need for special effects or too much experimenting this soon...

Just remember, Jim, if you're going to be doing any 'chimping', you need three hands and four thumbs to press all the buttons necessary to preview and zoom. I think I can hear that UPS truck too.

This might be the last we ever hear of him. He's off with his new camera having fun, taking pictures at 8.5 fps. He'll probably forget about all of us in a couple days.

I heard that Jim was so excited that he left and forgot his wife. She had just closed the locked front door as he drove off and she didn't have a key. Poor Jim. We know what he has to look forward to when he gets back.

ROFLMAO!!!

You guys crack me up!! Anyway I changed the name of the thread as "bummer" just doesn't work for me anymore...

We're at the motel room...I did remember my wife (Mary). Well, okay I did have to go back, but at least I remembered...(j/k)

Anyway, just cracked open the box and now charging batteries, which Canon says takes two hours for the first charge, and have installed wrist and neck straps. CF and SD cards are in. A/C power module is in and I'm getting ready to install the software. Then I'll set personal settings, set camera to SI setting and then play a little while it's plugged into the adapter...

First impressions: Large. There is no doubt you're caressing something special when you pick up a 1D series camera. Weight: I'm not worried in the least about the weight. This camera feels so sweet.

Would I forget about you guys? Naaah. You've been with me down this bumpy road to getting this camera and that would be just plain rude to abandon the friends I have made here.

It was a trying month waiting for the MKII. It felt like a few years rather than a few weeks. However, I've been reading all the hiccups you all have had getting used to the MKII and that will help me avoid those.

So, I'd like to thank the entire forum for your collective patience through all this. This is a special place. I hope to meet more of you in the future.

Now it's time for me to produce... :)

Nice words, Jim. You can be quite eloquent when you're waiting for batteries to charge. I just wish I was there to see your fact the first time you crack off about sixteen shots in under two seconds.

He's got the B.A.R. of cameras - he's going to need plenty of CF cards IMHO. :D

Seems my laptop has only the small plugin for firewire so I cannot set any personal functions until I get a new cable when I get home. The home PC has the large plugin so that will be fine...So I shoot with stock personal functions...

Tom (Belmondo): Thanks...I'm tempted to shoot the first shot here in the motel room, but we'll be at the track very early so I'll practice out there.

This is a lot of camera. Whew! But, after a few minutes of pushing buttons and twirling wheels I'm already feeling at home. I need more fingers...;). I can hardly wait to crack off a flurry of shots...Will wait for it to be worthwhile though...

Tom W: ROFL! Yeah. 2gig cards are looking pretty nice now!

Mills: Wait till you get yours! Whew! Pretty awesome machine...

Don't worry, a new cable is ONLY $40. Bet you have a Dell, huh?
I had the same problem. Another problem with that 4 pin connection, is that the new Sandisk Firewire CF won't work with it either...

Happy Shooting..You will love it....Oh yeah...She loves high shutter speeds, so crank 'em up.....

Gen: My home laptop is a Compaq, for work I have a Dell. I haven't really checked the PF settings that close yet so not sure I need access to them all that often, but I will have to get a cable that will work when I'm out on the road. I have a USB2 card reader so I'm okay there...

I'll be shooting TV mode 90% of the day and shooting between 1/500 on up. The nice thing about the boats is you can totally freeze them and they still look killer fast.
