Hi. Well as promised, first picture with my Sigma 70-300 APO. Lens was attached and hand-held shot taken in my garden. Yeah! Reaperman has a garden. These tiny Irises were just waiting for a pic. Cropped in PS but nothing else. Quite pleased with the result but looking to get out and about real soon.

Hi and thank you for the comments. They are very much appreciated. Can't wait to get some time to go walkabout with the lens. Hopefully will post some pictures in the very near future.
Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Yep - nice shot from what is possibly the best "bang for the buck" lens out there!

That's a very good first shot. I'm on a (very) limited budget and was considering a Canon EF 100-300mm 4.5-5.6 USM, but this has got me thinking. Anyone done a pro/con compare please?

Jim, if you do a search here you'll find nothing but good about this lens. I bought it after looking at the pics and comments from here and was not disappointed. Many pics in my gallery were taken with this lens. Can't comment on the Canon.

Jim. I got mine through the P.O.T.N. Sells ads. £95 + postage. Came complete and immaculate with case, box, hood etc.
It is a great lens and with the addition of a Macro facility makes it a great lens for any bag.
Tip: Buy the APO version only. Read a few disappointing reviews for the NON APO.
When you get it, post some pics. I'll be posting some more very soon.

Okay. Second outing with Sigma 70-300mm. Hope you like the pics.
The shell was an experiment in dof.

and... a couple more.
The iris is back but this was an experiment in background effects. I was quite pleased with the outcome. Took about 5 to get this one.
And my dog...Ozzie. English Bull Terrier. Known as a Marmite dog (you either love em' or hate em').
He wasn't too frilled at having his picture taken hence the ears are back. Ungrateful little B*****d! LOL.

Excellent pics Reaperman. I knew you would be pleased with the lens as it served me brilliantly while I had it.
The more you use it the better the results. Especially love the shell shot. :D

Heh! Brian. Nice to hear from you and thanks for the comments re: pics. It really is a great lens and I have played around with the Macro. It convinced me to do everything with Manual focus. Hopefully no looking back now.
Again, Brian, many thanks for the lens... and if you have anything else you might be selling on??
I'm trying to sort out some Free web space to put pics on etc... so will give update if successful.
PS I need a new tripod now as the lens / camera combo is too heavy for my old one. See, I told you.... its never ending.
All the best.

I could have got a lot closer, but he wasn't having any of it. He's a bit of a 'pussy-cat' with his family, but he protects unlike any dog I have ever owned before.
It's difficult getting shots in the garden as he won't tolerate any other living creature in it. He's been stung in the mouth more times than I care to remember, and we get foxes and squirrels here too... well that just about does him in. He tries to go through the double-glazing to get at them.
Must say... my wife and kids are perfectly safe from anything while he's around.

Encouraging stuff. Any telephoto shots between 200-300mm?

Hi. Jim. Yeah I have some shots between 200-300mm. I'll post them as soon as I can.
The lens is brilliant. It is the one lens besides the nifty-fifty that everyone on a budget should own.

yep, this is my only lens other than the kit and the 50 and i'm totally pleased. nice shots. the only drawback is with this lens it's only usable handheld at the long end outside in sunlight for me. i can't seem to hold it steady enough otherwise.

Yeah I have the same problem as it is quite a well made heavy..ish lens. But it is worth the effort. and I'm quite happy to use the tripod anyway. After all the sharper the shot the better.
Enjoy using it everytime I open my bag.

Nice shots, I really like this lens! The only problems I have had so far is when at 300mm I find it very hard to keep it steady and only get about a 50 percent keeper rate handheld. But on a tripod at 300mm or handheld 235mm down great success.

Agree with you on that one. 300mm is pushing it a bit handheld. I doubt I get 50% keep unless I rest my hand/arm against something solid. But the lens is just so bloody good that its worth making the effort with a tripod.
I can't praise this lens enough.
