Just experimenting. I took these with my 50mm-1.4
1st shot-His right arm is too bright. Do you think it was from the ISO being too high or the f-stop being at 2.8?
Settings:
Av mode-set to 2.8
ISO 400

2nd shot

I realize that my background is busy. I was just experimenting with f-stops and ISO speeds. His feet, legs & arms were also moving; part of the blurriness in the background. Would like CC on settings for future reference. Thank you!

I can't tell if the ISO is too high since the size is small. The first is a bit too bright, the second one a tad too bright, and the third is juuuust right. Really, the third is a pretty classic photo.
ISO 400 on a 350D though is typically pretty good. I wouldn't be too worried if I were you.

ahh more cute baby shots!! just color balance them and they should come out perfect.

Yeah, that third one is great. That's a keeper for sure. As howzitboy said, the white balance seems a bit off, a little too blue on my monitor. You might play with different crops of that, and think about the frame/matte combo for your 8x10 print. :)

You only start getting into ISO noise problems at ISO 800 with our cameras. Even 800 is just fine for most situations. 1600 is where its really noticeable.
Remember, adjust your exposures with aperture and shutter speed. Only when those two fail do you start messing with the ISO.

Thank you!
howzitboy & MCB-how would you color balance this? I do not have PS.....*sigh*.
I use the sw that came with my rebel.
Wildewinds-I noticed that you have a rebel too. What do you normally use for WB? I set mine to custom the other day instead of auto and the pictures were so different. I've just started to play with my settings a bit more. I'm getting braver, although I'm still afraid to shoot with smaller aperture openings:p

Hey mama, very very cute boy. I like the 3rd picture.
Just wondering what town you are located in our overtaxed state?
Thanks

ISO is not hight at all
A few things I would have tried a differen't angle lower or higher with that particular AV....or a wider f stop at that particular angle. But other than that the lighting looks great.
And yes ..a beauriful baby indeed!

The iso isn't too high, but the contrast is a bit low in all 3. The lack of contrast makes it look too bright/noisey. Just do a simple auto-levels in photoshop elements or photoshop and you'll get this (with a tiny bit of sharpening too) Sometimes motion in a picture is good, but you usually need to have more motion than just making it look a little blurry.

Oh, thank you! I like the way you edited that. Did you just increase the contrast? Or did you darken it a bit?

No, I said to just do an "auto-levels". Viewing the histogram, your picture did not have enough shadows. Histogram is skewere to the right. Auto levels balances the color range.

I do not have PS or any SW that does auto levels that's why I asked if your auto level increased the contrast since you said it lacked some. Sorry, I should have clarified it better:)

White balance depends on the situation. Remember, it's not an optical setting, so you can adjust the white balance after you take the shot and have the same effect as if you change the settings in the camera. It's especially easy if you shoot in RAW and use Photoshop CS.
