For those trying to decide between the 250D and something that can get a little closer, I just sold my 250D and purchased the Hoya +10 and am very happy with the decision to trade. I could really tell the difference in detail I could get with my G3 and the Hoya +10 vs. the 250D which is only a +4. Below is a shot of an old pocketwatch taken with the new lens.
Now I just have to work on getting the "bee on the flower" macro shot that seems to be in everyones collection

No problems with DOF and F8 aperture limit?
Could you say this photo's settings?
I´m almost buying Canon adapter + dozens of filters

Well, yea, DOF is pretty small. It's almost impossible to get everything you want in focus. I used a mini-tripod, 420ex flash bounced off a wall, set the aperature to f8 and let the camera do the rest in Av mode. It's managable I think. For almost all my shots I've taken with it I've used f8 for the best results.

how much does a filter like that cost?

I got mine last week for about $75 including shipping from Lensmate. After scouring Ebay for a few months and seeing nothing but cheap sounding $20 +10's, I decided to just buy the Hoya and be done with it.

What a great photo...it is certainly equivalent to the "bee on the flower",
just a different catagory! I have one of those filters for my G3, but I haven't tried much with it yet. I don't have an external flash, so I guess I'll have to limit myself to the great outdoors for awhile when I do get to practicing with it. I love the photo!!! :D

Well, I don't read German  , and I've never seen that particular type before, but it IS a Hoya so I don't see how you could go wrong for $6!
And thanks for the compliments on the watch shot!

there are still 2 days left, i'm sure it will go up a lot. And there is another problem its a 52mm and i only have a 58... :)

I don´t think a flash is needed, as long as you use Av mode + tripod + timer the G3 uses more time to take the pic.
So all I think I need is the Canon adaptor plus the +1+2+3+4 Hoya 58 mm lenses. Here in Brazil all this stuff costs about U$ 130, is it a fair price?

Thats's a lot for just the canon adapter and the Hoya lens set. The +1/2/4 set goes for about $40 brand new and the adapter is around $15-$20...
Also, I just used one +10 lens - stacking all the lower ones to add up to 10 will work, but it can increase vignetting and require longer shutter times due to the loss of light.

I actually did not use a close up filter set for this. Just plain old Macro mode on the G3.

Do doubt about it, House, thats a real fine close-up shot. I'm glad to see somebody posting a message and shot done with a +10 Hoya close-up, because I've been doing my close-up work with a Hoya Close-Up kit (+3+2+1) screwed to each other and then attached to a Raynox M-250 macroscopic lens, and my macro shots have been pretty impresssive at times, but I want to scrap the +3+2+1 deal, and just stick one +10 on the M-250..... Whats so funny is when recently at Wolf (Ritz) camera in downtown Atlanta, I asked one of the knowledgeable sales staff if they had "any" +10 close-up lens, and one said to the other..."I've never heard of a +10 close-up lens, have you, Hal " So, thank God for a real photography house like B&H in New York , where people know a little bit about what they're talking about. If you have a minute, man, take a look at some of my close-up work (albums 2nd/3rd albums on the top row ) and other shots at this link, where I've put up 5 albums.....Ciao, Mackroe... 8)

MackRoe-
Very nice album. You've convinced me to get off my *ss this summer and actually leave the house for a change to get some shots like yours
