Trying to get out of my little sports shooting hole more often. Decided to go out in the yard during the rain sunday and see what I could come up with. I don't do this type of photography much... so critique the stuff out of this one so I can see this how you all are seeing it. Thanks.

Nice exposure. I would try cropping a little tighter on the left side. Also, if you could change the color of the background to something that would compliment, but not match, the green in the flower, it would give the flower a lot more pop.

VegasGeorge..... The background is pretty much as shot, I hadn't given much thought to changing it out. In sports photography that is strictly taboo. I need to get myself used to the more freedoms of artistic photography, and for sure learn a bit more about PS. Coincidently, I had been thinking of getting some black cloth to use as a backdrop.

Many thanks both for commenting.

Anyone else have comments.... please share away!

I am seriously hoping that is a good thing...

Here is another from that day... the streaks in the background are rain falling. Metering was a bit harder with this one as it was more contrasty because of the downpoor.

I saw this thread again, and was inspired to try a quick edit. I hope you don't mind, I was just seeing if my ideas had any merit. I'm not particularly happy with the result, but I think it illustrates my basic notion that a contrasting background would add interest to the shot.

Vegas... thanks for showing me your take on it. Always interesting to see others perspective. Thanks for taking the time to share your rendition. Cheers!

I like everything about the original shot; composition, focus, background (bg excellent).

I have a very personal dislike for greens that tend towards olive green.

I pulled your image into Lightroom, and put a bit more blue into the greens (hey, it's all subjective).

The Yellow and Green sliders for Hue went to +49 and +40 respectively.
