I am posting this one both here and in post-processing, in hopes of gathering feedback.

What kind of monitor do you use for your post-processing? CRT? LCD? type, brand, size, ???

I have a 17"LCD, and am planning to get a 2nd monitor so I can spread out my tools/menus and images, and am wondering if I should get a CRT rather than a second LCD panel, fo rbetter color rendition, etc.

Your feedback appreciated.

I'm not up to speed on the current crt monitors that are best but I use a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 750s. It was one of the better one's when it was new.
I know someone will point you in the right direction. :)

Sony Aperture Grill...

Don't worry about model number.. although the larger an more expensive the better

Bottom line.. if you get a Sony 19" or larger and make sure it is an Aperture Grill ..(wait.. maybe Sony only make AG?) anyways... you will be well on your way to display nirvana.

Just to buck the CRT vote, I use and love a 23" widescreen Sony LCD and Matrox Parhalia combination. I have it set at 1920 x 1200 and IMHO the lack of flicker, total flatness and extra width of the screen (plenty of space for those PS menu's) more than offsets any absolute colour rendition issues. It also means I can sit and watch WS DVD's in the study if the kids have hogged the other TV's in the house

..I'm sure it's sweet.. but you can get all the benifits you list PLUS accurate color from a CRT for less $$$

For instance.. I am typing this on a Sony FW900 ... A 24" CRT, perfectly flat screen.. a refresh rate so high there is of course no "flicker" (anything over 75hz should suffice) ..and resolutions adjustable up to 1920 X 1440 at 32bit color depth.

What the LCD does offer that a CRT can't match is lower weight, smaller size (MUCH smaller and lighter) and much less heat generated.

I use the LaCie monitors (22 inch). They're excellent, and cheaper than the Sonys. I did a fair bit of research, and the Sonys are top, but the LaCie isn't far behind.

Nice to hear. I'm lusting for a LaCie but I'm waiting for the prices to drop as they are going down right now. They're much more expensive here than in U.S.
