I'm looking for an optical slave that will make a 430ex or cheap vivitar work with my Sony H5. The camera has preflash that needs to be ignored by the slave, not sure how many preflashes. Seems like the slave in the link has many settings and MIGHT work with many different flashes.

So anyone have experience with this or another good semi-cheap "digital" slave??

Thanks
George

Hi George,

I haven't tried it but it looks and sounds like a nice device. I would surely love to know how well it works. Hopefully someone will have a review or some feedback on it.

It is very likely that the cited device will work on a "cheap vivitar".

It is also very unlikely that it will work on the Canon 430EX, not due to preflash issues, but due to fundamental incompatibility of almost all optical slaves with Canon EX flash units.

If this incompatibility of Canon EX flash units with optical slaves intrigues you and you want additional info, please use the search feature as the explinations for the incompatibility are very long and not totally firm in absolute cause and effect.

Enjoy! Lon

Canon speedlights tend not to work with optical slaves as they don't recycyle with them. You have to turn the flash off and back on again after each flash.
