I wonder how much food this guy gets to eat, seemed quite an ironic shot at the time!

EDIT: 3 different versions up now, finally edited as intended- cropped at the top to get rid of the white object.

An excellent capture; I almost feel like it might get a proper (and in my mind, more sympathetic feel) if it were desatured a bit. It definitely shows the ironic contrast between the two images. Sad really, but an excellent real-life capture.

Excellent capture, to echo Brian!Juxtaposing two incongruent elements is a neat trick in street photography and you have demonstrated it well here. I think the photo as is is fine as that is your vision of the moment, but I am curious to see it desaturated a bit too. And I suspect that this would look good in B/W or duotone as well.

2 more versions for you pio, dutone and b+w.. not sure which I prefer but I do think they're better than the original. I've replaced the original with a slightly more desaturated one too, that was my original intention.. just didn't know how far to go with the desaturation.

Adam - your original replacement at the top is now exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned the desaturation - I honestly love the shot now. I also think the B&W and sepia tones work well here also, but love the original with desat.

What are your EXIF settings for the shot if you don't mind me asking, and what lens did you use?

Adam, I must say that these versions are several notches from the original. Great job! I think the desaturation is spot on, and the resulting photo kinda looks like a Lomo. Perhaps burn in the crease lines of the sleeping bag a bit more to give it more texture, but it is great as it is.

I like the B/W and sepia conversions too, they would look great in a collection of photos with the same treatment. The B/W version does look harsh, which is a good effect for this photo. Well done!

Thanks. I'm alot happier with the photo now, the original editing was very rushed to say the least. I'm not at home at the moment but i'll check the EXIF out later- the lens used was my Tamron 28-75.

Cheers Pio, your work is a great inspiration- I love your PP and have to admit that mine is to some extent styled on yours.. I need to spend more time on them really though as I often rush through big batches of photos without getting the desired effect first time round. I might have a go at a bit more D+B later when I get home :) Think the desaturated version will probably get the place in my Edinburgh gallery when i'm all done editing!

The desaturated version is fantastic, I just love it. Living in Chicago I am sad to say I see things like this on a regular basis. The desaturation mirrors my mood when I see such a polar set of messages.

Wonderful job and thanks for sharing.

Thanks alot, Newcastle (where I live) isn't so bad but this was taken in Edinburgh where there seemed to be alot of homeless people.

I really like the first one. It reminds me of this famous Margaret Bourke- White photograph Louisville Flood Victims 1937 in message.

The reason I like one the best is the color of his bag is almost the same color as the arrow and the rest of the image is void of color. Stong image and the first one is the best.

Hey Adam, thanks for the compliment. I'm glad to share my PP workflow, as I appreciate the helpful tips that I have been the recipient of in the past. Keep working at it, soon it will become second nature. Would love to see more of your street photos :)
