Hi all, can you give me some advice on how to improve this photo in the future? I couldn't get to a spot where the sun wasn't in front of me.

Ta!

since he is so white, best thing is use and external light meter to get the exposure correct, meter off grey card or meter off some neutral scene by him, hold that exposure and shoot. its a tuff shot cuz he is backlit against dark background and he is white. thats about as hard an exposure u can get!
id try shoot again against a background same lighting as the bird (ie not shaded)

but, came out really good. u can "save" it with some creative burning and dodging.

I guess a little fill-flash would help brighten the front of the bird, while allowing you to reduce the exposure of the back of the bird, which is at risk of blowing out because of the sunlight.

if there is green grass nearby meter off it and take the shot.
Then backet it up 1 and down 1 stop.
The camera isnt going to handle metering that bird at all so better of doing something else.

also its too tight, back up or zoom out.
