Hello everybody,

Last week a good oportunity came up fo me to buy a 70-200 L f/4 for a very nice price.
So I went to the shop and asked to see it and make a couple of shots with my camera.(At the moment I own a 300D) The guy agrees, and when I take my camera out of the backpack he puts the lense away and tells me it won't fit to the camera, not because of the fitting but there would be some kind of issues with the mirror.

Maybe I am really really ignorant but I cannot imagine how that could be the case as the mirror sits in the camera and has no contact at all with the lense.

My only guess is that he got something wrong in his explanation which leads to my question : Is there really an issue between that lense and the 300D?

Did or does somebody here use that combination.

Thanks

Tom

ALL EF lenses will fit ALL EOS cameras. If that lens won't fit, there is a problem. I would be weary about that lens of it doesn't fit.

Hi Tom;

No issues at all...

I used my 70-200 f/4L on my old 300D without any problems at all...

Go back and give it a try!

Cheers;

Lee

What! That has to be the most bogus thing I have ever heard of. Even if that were the case it would hurt your camera, and not the lens. What a moron! Time to find a new shop or a new sales person.

I've been using my 70-200 f/4L for the past 2 months w/o any problems on my 300D. If its a really good deal, I'd insist on trying it out and then make that your last purchase from the store....ever. The sales person is obviously confusing the 300D with the Nikon D40 ;)

wow thanks a lot for the fast responses.
I'll buy the lense then.

To be honest I am more and more buying my gear on the net. Shops here in Luxembourg tend to give you really bad advice. It's a pain in the bottom.

Cheers,
Tom

Good Luck Tom!

It's funny, we have almost the same exact gear...LOL. I'll be picking up either a Sigma or Tokina UWA in a few months as well. It's refreshing to see another fellow 300D users still around ;)

By doing extensive researching on this forum alone, I find that I no longer bother with local brick&morter stores except to see the size of a particular lens. (70-200 F/4L vs. the IS version vs. 2.8 IS version.)

true Dizzy, I didn't realize that.

The plan in a few month is to get a 5D :) and keep the 300d as a backup. It served me so well that I cannot let go of it :oops:

Yes that's the way I am going as well. At least I know what I want and why.

Cheers,
Tom
