You're at a track meet. Wouldn't it be nice to have a microphone on your camera that listens for the gun and starts a timer when it hears it and places the timer's time with the EXIF data of each picture you take.

Does the 1D (I or II) do this? Would it do it with a firmware hack? I don't have a 1D, I am holding on to my 10D until Canon brings out the 3D. Maybe by then I'll have enough room on a credit card.

Firmware hack no. But I believe all the EOS cameras can be remotely triggered using external devices, so that probably would be a reality to do. Not the EXIF info however, but the remote triggering yes. Would the EXIF info be useful? Not for me, but I'm sure someone (you maybe ;) ) could use it.

One of the most usable functions of the 1DI/II is the sound recording. As a press photog this is a vvery valuable tool. Plus, my ability to remember names is almost zero... Just pull up the image and record anything you want to about it...

For sports the exif data alone can be helpful later when sorting images. Time mostly.
