First things first.
Read up on how to convert from raw to JPG. These have a lot of compression artifacts.
Other than that, I guess id have to say that the composition could use some looking at. But, then again, I don't exactly know how to compose a dance recital so what do i know.

That compression is from the saving for the post...the original file does not have the compression you are seeing. I did a quick resize to post them fast....
Or maybe I did something wrong....I am just a rookie! Do you have the reading material post or link? I will read it to make sure I did it right.
As far as the comp...these are how dance recticals go...Try to capture emotions and poses!

What program are you using for conversion?

Number 2 looks a little soft to me.
They could probably do with some levels and USM treatment to lift them a little, but nice work. Just watch cutting half a person as in #3 left.

The compression artifacts are caused by just that: Compression (for resizing for web).
Not too big a deal IMO.
I like #1.
#2 needs a crop, and it's a pity one of the girls is blocked by an elbow.
#3 would have been best, if there were a bit more space left, right and bottom...

I wanted everything to go as planned, however, there are so many thing that were out of my control. Focal length was a big problem because I had very little room to move back and forth to adjust since I was using my 50mm 1.8 II lens. I just had to get what I could when I had the chance. The lens didn't focus as fast as I thought it would, hence the softness in most of the pictures I took. All in all I thought most of them turned out OK. Most of the files are only going to be 4x6 or 5x7 prints. At least that is what the parents/families are purchasing from the website....
Thanks for the replies!

Hey, I haven't even posted the rehearsal yet! :-) BTW, you can reduce the compression artifacts by generating somewhat larger files up closer to 100Kb each rather than 65Kb.
