Would you guys recommend using a 30d or a 1d mark2n?

Patience, patience. You can't expect alot of answers in half an hour.
I don't have the 1DMK2n but do have other 1 series bodies and the 30D. Either would do fine but if I had my choice it would be the 1 series body due to the faster and more accurate focussing.

I wouldn't turn down the M2n if someone offered me one...I SAID - if someone offered me one! Oh well...I tried.
I won't let go of the 30D tho' cause the 17-55 rocks!

Either would be sufficient. You don't typically need 8FPS or AI Servo for weddings. Let your budget and upper body strength be your guide.

30D - Smaller and lighter, easier to use

fast AF and high ISO are very important to me, so i'd use - the 1D series

There's not much ISO difference between the 1D II/N and 30D. I'd consider that moot.

that may be true, but i haven't had either N nor 30D, i was thinking of the 1D3 when i originally posted - my bad.

The 30D is actually quite excellent at high ISO. I used it for basketball ISO3200 and it was clean enough for at least 8x10s. I never tried anything bigger, but I'm pretty certain 11x14 wouldn't be much of a stretch. I haven't measurebated it, but I think my 1D II might actually be noisier.

Man! Am I the only one here who voted for the 30D? If there had been a 1D III in the poll, then everything would be different

I didn't vote for either, because it wouldn't matter for portraits and weddings. We're not talking sports here.

so it seems like the iso difference isnt much between the two?
hmm.

I would choose my 5D over the 1D Mk IIn but I don't know enough about the 30D to rate it against the 1D Mk IIn for portraits and weddings. My preference of the 1D Mk IIn over the 30D is for other reasons so I'm not going to vote on this one.
Everything else being equal, for portraits I prefer full frame over 1.3 crop and 1.3 crop over 1.6 crop.

Actually, I found the MkIIN to be worse at high ISO's than the 30D. If I could afford a MKIIN, I wouldn't be deciding between that and the 30D...I'd get a 5D and 24-70L. Now that's a wedding combo. The only things about the MkIIN that I liked for weddings was the 100% coverage viewfinder (I hate waiting to see what ELSE is gonna be in the shot), and focus point linked spot metering. Other than that, I can honestly say I wasn't terribly impressed with the MKIIN. Or the MkII, for that matter (obviously).

i voted for the 30D, not that im not lusting after the 1dm2s world class AF!! but you dont need 8.5fps to shoot portraits and weddings. and you can use the 17-55 IS on the 30D!! :D :D

8.5 fps would come in quite handy for getting a bridesmaid all laid out in the air like a wide receiver going for a fingertip catch of the bridal bouquet. But other than that... ahh... no, probably not. :)
