Alright this event was on 05-June at the Embassy Club in London, UK. They hosted the top selected 4 oriental acts to play on the night, from singer/song writers to those that play their own instruments too.

Lighting was typical red gels on spot lights, so there was a heavy emphasis on red/orange hue on the performers. This is where a bit of flash would of helped, but at the same time, ambient shooting retains the intimate nature of these small acoustic gigs.

Acts from the start were Mayella Quan feat. Suki Mok on acoustic guitar, Cherry Lee (aka TheBathroomGirl off youtube), Kevin Quan (aka DJ Phat) & Suki Mok, and finally Will Tang. My fave of the night (not to sound biased) had to be Kevin and Suki’s performance, i’m sorry but fusing scratched hip hop beats with the self made beat/rifts from a guitar was truly amazing… especially when that was a drum & bass rhythm! As well as this, Kevin has proven that he ain’t just a DJ, he is also a talented singer/song writer/piano player… accompanied with Suki’s guitar rifts, this was truly an amazing duo.

I didn’t quite catch the last act properly, literally stayed for one song before having to dash home to Milton Keynes via late train from London. But from what I had heard, the last band was good.

C&C welcome...

With the whole Canon has better high ISO performance, I'm really interested to see how the D200 and the DX2 pics came out.

I really like #2 and 5. #1 and 3 are nice as well, but I'ld crop a bit closer.

I really like #1. I think you caught some sweetness and vulnerability in her.

got a few crowd shots too... a lot of this was meant to be documentry photography for the city showcase themselves but i got a few creative ones for the artists themselves and my port... here are some crowd shots... oh and as for the 2nd crowd shot, for some fluke look at the time the DJ was doing a shoutout for his girlfriend, a green light happen to sweep her at that time... thought it captured something along with the fans...

What an interesting set. Looks as though there was no room to dance but it didn't matter because everyone who attended was a photographer (more or less!) :-)

Like the second shot. Could be processed a bit better though. (Start off by either giving DPP a try, or lower the blue saturation in LR) Also needs a bit lightening...

im not sure about this, but i feel sometimes with music, pics dont to it justice, and sometimes video should be in play rather than photography...

the DJ/Guitar set between Kevin and Suki is on youtube, judge for yourself :) I certainly felt definately video for this moment
