I have the POTN strap, and would like to get a hand strap that it can attach to, yet beable to remove the bottom plate quickly for the handstrap for quick tripod/monopodding (ie: has a hand screw). Any suggestions?

I just got off the phone with Mark (MDJAK) and had asked him how he liked his Canon E-1 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12984-REG/Canon_2344A001_E1_Hand_Strap.html). He praised it very highly and has this and his POTN both attached to his 1Ds MarkII.
This doesn't interfere with his bottom plate. I didn't check but he said that there is a diagram how it attaches posted somewhere on this forum.
I'll be ordering one next week.

A grip or some other form of adapter is needed to attach the E-1 thto the 30D the OP has. Though the small piece does allow both to be attached at once.
If you don't want a grip it may be worth looking at the camdapter plates (www.camdapter.com) in whatever choice of QR you are using with your tripod/monopod heads, that's if you are.

I have the E-1 on my XTi and love it. I prefer hand to neck straps anyway. However, if you have a battery grip there are directions with the grip on how to attach the E-1. While I don't use it with a neck strap it can work with one as well, there is a connector for that.
Note: you will need a battery grip or an adapter to connect the hand strap if you don't have one. I hear the Hakuba handstrap works without the battery grip.
Below is the link to forum post with directions on attaching the E-1.

I use the POTN strap with the E1 Hand strap, i use it on a 350d with grip and i will use this same combo on my 1d when i get one :)
Check out photos of how mine attaches and a full review of the POTN strap ---- http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=322781
I must admit the look of the NIKON version, i know we shouldnt say that word but the Nikon hand strap looks better quality and a better grip on the hand!

yeah I don't have the battery grip (nor do I want to buy it), but I think I might go for the optech handstrap copy, and not worry about an extra eyelet by using this method with the POTN strap:
