Give me your opinion of which one would fulfill my needs. I want something to keep with me all the time. I want it to take fishing with my grandson and me. Everytime he catches a nice fish, I wish I had my 30D with me. I don't however want to take it along in a boat etc. Would one of the A models mentioned do the job, or should I spring for the G7? I posted on the other forum ,but am getting no responses.
Thanks, Jere

One of the A models will be fine. A lot of us DSLR owners have Axxx models for tucking in the odd corner just so there's something along.

I agree, the A series are great, you'll be right at home. My background is Nikon 35mm and Mamiya RB67 semi-pro, I find the Canon easy to use. The G7 is tempting, more pocketable because smaller battery, the ISO dial on top and 10MP, wow.

I just got the a640 a week ago. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the pictures that it can take. The difference in features between the a630/640 and G7 isn't that great anyway.
