OK so I went out in the backyard to shoot the sky at f/22 to check the dust on the sensor. No tripod, no flash, no Beamer, no nuttin' just the camera and the 400mm lens.
So before I could get ready to shoot the sky, this Catbird dives into the birdbath and goes crazy. I just take a shot. The birdbath is in the shade and no flash. The camera is handheld. The ISO is still at 100 and at f/5.6 the shutter speed is 1/40. As you can see everything is oof but it just seems to add to the violence of the bath.

There is a frenetic energy about the picture. I have no idea what that means. ;)

Thanks Steve, Peter, Mitch and Scott. Sometimes the worst mistake turn out OK. It's not going to win any awards but I kinda think its cute.

Exactly, Peter. That sort of sums it up! :D

Bob, Gary, Geoff,
Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them. I was on the verge of tossing this image but then I looked at it for a few seconds more and something just clicked.

I like it too. Completely random photos are more fun.

If it was my image, I woulda tossed it as a f*ck up. Somehow, since it's not my image, it does kinda work.

Thanks Shirley. Thanks Kenny. cdifoto, that is exactly what it was but it kinda worked. I think it is the slower shutter speed catching the movement of the oof water droplets flying every which direction.

You are actually lucky that the shutter speed was so low. A high speed enough to freeze handshake blur would have also frozen the water droplets instead of leaving them as nice trails behind the bird. Great image.. works for me too! Yes, accidentals can be fun.

Exactly, the slow shutter speed is what made this image interesting. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it.

Thanks Lawrie. Yes sometimes I have a tendency to kill the shot at the camera. It pays to upload them all and give them a look before doing anything rash!

Oh Mickey! I'm crushed! :( Devastated! OH, wait... I'm better now! :D:D
Seriously, I think I expected more comments like yours and fewer positive comments than I got on this image. The bird really is lost in the image and the interest, to me at least, is the flying streaks of water. Nothing more, nothing less.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts as well.

Great shot :-), it really conveys the kind of frenzied nature of their bath time.

You know it's not the the bird and water ( I like that part) it's the metal bird bath and hardware that I find very distracting. Thanks, I appreciate that you weren't offended.
