As to the Poutine, I think you need to come to Ottawa and try out the local shops and poutine (the best there is!).
I've purchased off the market forum here, B&H and local brick and mortar: Henry's etc.
Edit: Don't let Ian sell you on the local Poutine, he seems to think its good!!

you wont convince me about the poutine. blech. Ottawa or Montreal. :p
I find that Lozeau is a bit expensive, but it is easier to browse than at Steves/Simons. (The one in Old Montreal). But they have a better website.
Camera Canada: professional or amateur side? I find the amateur side search button is very weak. Is that your experience?
PhotoCo??? Never heard of it. :(
Not sure where you print, but mpix has just opened up their borders for us cross-shoppers. :)

I was in Montreal last month, and tried poutine for the first time during a day trip over to Quebec City. I figured “Hey, I like fries, and I like gravy, and I like cheese!”
It wasn’t bad, per se; something I think one could acquire a taste for. The cheese that was used was rather odd, though. It was like rubber. Maybe a nice sharp cheddar or feta would do the trick.
But, hey, at least I can say I tried it…

Cheese curds are the best for the real poutine experience.:D When eaten raw they will "squeak" against your teeth:lol: Very flavourful, though mild to medium in strength.
There is a great dairy between Ottawa and Montreal that supplies some of the best, St. Alberts Cheese. Being available to both Montreal and Ottawa explains the constant back and forth between Ian and myself.

Anything that involves chips [that's the real word for fries, guys ;) ] and gravy is a good thing. If it can involve cheese too, then that is a double bonus.
A scottish alternative to this is a chip butty, with cheese and mayonnaise. My brother swore by them as a hangover cure. I thought he was mad until I tried it. when you have a fuzzy mouth, and a stuffed up, post boozed head, it's salty, tangy, cheesy, gooyeness hits the spot much like a good fryup, but without the effort required to cook, and without the fuss-about of forks and knives.
I am scottish, I know about chips and other kinds of junk food, I can assure you. We batter Mars bars for a snack...

Unfortunately, I could have a small one due to recent restrictions, but it was a taste of greatness. And it is in Ottawa
I believe the BeaverTail did start in Ottawa, too.
The shop is/was in the Byward Market, and is Hooker.s Beavertails. (For those that don't know, the market is one of our late-night areas ;) And all puns were intended. ) They are also in many huts on the canal during skating season.
Picture a rolled out slab of dough that looks like a beaver tail, deep fried, and covered with your favorite toppings:D Cinnamon and sugar, flavoured jellies, chocolate sauce, whatever.

McDonalds poutine is not the standard to work with:p :p McD's kills poutine as badly as they kill anything else they do :p
"Take a little trip, take a little trip with me" as the song goes and try out some Ray's Fries at his truck in the Canadian Tire parking lot, Merivale and Hunt Club (personal favourite). Or out to Alfred for World Famous Poutine or fries at the chip truck on the side of Main street.

I guess most of the guys in Toronto are too busy working to post, but I will step up. And just to keep the peace between Qc, and BC yes your scenery is beautiful (especially both days it is not raining) and Qc your poutine is great, but your people are better. They have a Joi de Vie that is missing in the rest of Canada

I'm not Canadian, but I'm in Ottawa right now.
As for poutine, that's some of the nastiest tasting food I've ever had, and that's coming from a guy who's eaten balut, kimchi, and monkey brains...

Having done the Kimchi myself, I prefer the Poutine.
Sorry I couldn't be there to guide, even in the wet, for some of the better areas and views of town.
Would have been better than airports and aircrafts and terminal (pun intended) delays. Sad too, I didn't bring any gear on this trip.:(
Oh well, I hadn't been to Portillo's HotDogs since November, so worthwhile. Man, they make a good burger:D :D
Steve, If you want to try something that will make you wonder; in Chicago they have this thing about Italian Beef sandwiches. Tried one last time, don't understand the fervor, bland.
maybe I should introduce them to Poutine:twisted:

Well actually were are loaded THC (Tim Hortons Coffee)... well and the other THC too I suppose. Perhaps a better statement is, "Canadians are like Americans, except we don't punctuate our sentences with gunfire".
I am joking of course.

i am now somewhere in the waters off vancouver.
and soon to be in the waters somewhere between victoria and maui. big sailboat race coming up. 3 weeks of no land!
i like poutine, but alberta beef is kinda gross compared to what we grew on the farm in ontario. anything from the store tastes like sawdust to me anyways.

For local performers I've seen, I can match your Wilcox, Nash the Slash (and FM) Rompin Ronnie, Goddo, and Teenage Head twice.
I'll raise ya BeBop Deluxe, Blue Peter (twice), Moxy, Downchild, Men Without Hats and the absolute cleanest sound with dancing on the tables fun was The Powder Blues Band.
Pass me an Oh Vee ..........and I'll need the opener.;-);-)
