I think you're gonna trump me. All I have to return with on the club level is Streetheart, Paul James, George Oliver and recently The Bedouin Sound Clash,
On the big stage, Canuck-wise ya gotta add Rush a couple of times, Blue Rodeo twice, Neil the 'old' way and the 'Trans' way, Triumph (in Oshawa no less), BTO at the Grandstand (how's that for Canadian), April Wine, The Guess Who (2003 version), Tom Cochrane and Great Big Sea.
I'll pass on Larry's - too smoky, but how about a seat on the grass at the Ontario Place Forum? The stage will revolve so we can see their faces soon enough....! We'll grab a Shopsys on the way over - I've got the munchies.

I'm still grooving as well, just can't stay up all night to do it any more !!
I don't think the music died, but I believe there was a huge change in the city when CFNY radio stopped naming itself by the call letters after a format change. Live Earl Jive went back to CA and their other announcers bailed to various stations.
It had the effect of a huge peanut-butter pass, smoothing everything over in the city so it sounded the same.
Man, I miss that station.

The music is still alive for me too though not as much as it used to be.
I've been playing guitar since I was 16, played in a couple of bands, written and recorded over 200 songs with a fellow band-mate who I recently parted company with and I actively participate in a few different music recording discussion boards which are far more open and freewheeling then this place which is pretty civilized by comparison! ;)
I also get together with members of those boards and every summer we throw a 3 day "Jamfest" out in the woods of CT or KY and play and party our brains out! It's a real blast! The next one is coming up in less then two weeks and I'll be recording the event and doing double duty as the official photographer so as you can see by my sig, my lens collection is geared to stuff like that and landscape, which I enjoy doing on my own...usually go up north to Arrowhead and Algonquin provincial park for the camping and photo shoots that I enjoy.
But since I have parted company with my band mate of 30 years, I've sort of lost my inspiration to keep writing and recording and photography has very much become my artistic outlet...just what I needed; an other expensive gear collecting hobby!
Cheers! :)

feelings*, exams are good, I was a college teacher. Therefore thank you, but I won't distract you at this time. In fact, getting a group together this way, or any way at all, is quite difficult. So a proposal for the future. My wife and I have a country place half way between Toronto and Ottawa. Kingston, Belleville, Trenton, Campbellford, Oshawa, maybe we can catch some Googlers. We have two beautiful and friendly dogs (see image) in a large fenced area, several kilometers of private trails in the woods, a beaverpond - and a little lake and a little waterfalls within a short drive. Blackflies, mosquitoes, deerfly, moosefly etc. in season. Butterflies, dragonflies, bugs, fungi, frogs, garter snakes, maybe even an occasional bird. Photogs can camp out (I provide a 5 gallon jug of the best water in Ontario plus a spade), stay in modest motels 30 min. drive away, or just come for the day. BBQ for your use, and a 20 ft x 30 ft pavilion with picnic tables seating 30, in case of a passing thunderstorm. If a big crowd, can rent a portapotti. We can set up an informal, fun event for late June - early August. Those interested, please PM.

Are we Canadians all registering our gear at customs on the Canadian side so we don't get hassled when we return? Last I visited the States by car I forgot to take my invoices with me. So I had Canadian customs put little labels on my camera and lenses, and got a card too showing what I took out with me. Took 20 minutes at a quiet border crossing and friendly agent. Nobody asked for it on my return. Soon I'll be crossing again, this time at a busy place, busy time, on a hot day, with wife and two dogs in the car. I'll have an additional lens that looks like new.
Do YOU all register your gear at the border, take invoices along, or just don't think about it at all? And have you ever had difficulties, if you didn't have documentation to prove that you've paid your sales taxes?

I just mail myself an equipment list w/serial numbers (and pics, ideally) (and a pdf of my passport, drivers etc) and carry a printout of the sent email. I use a web-based email service so I have proof if a border service officer really wants to dispute the fact that I had the gear in my possession before I left Canada.
YMMV, I am not advocating this for anyone else, and you should probably check with CBSA before attempting same.
(I should probably check with my local office too....)

Has anybody bought from http://www.bhphotovideo.com ? Boy, the US prices are wayyyyyy cheaper.. like a Canon 85mm is $369+$29 shipping.. via $529+taxes here in Canada!
I was wondering if somebody has bought from them and how much extra taxes are you dinged when it crosses the border? Because at that price, if customs are only charging pst/gst.. then it is still cheaper than buying used locally.. :(

I've bought from B&H and several other US retailers online. Canada Customs will charge you GST & PST on the Canadian Dollar value of your purchase. There are no tariffs or duties on camera equipment bought in the US.
If you can have the order ship via USPS you will have minimum, if any, brokerage fees. If it ships via UPS Ground expect to pay a brokerage fee in the neighbourhood of $50, maybe be more or less but it's significant. If UPS is your only option pay for Express or International service. Not only will you get your order so much faster, any brokerage fees are included in the shipping fee.

So I spoke to CBSA, they said that emailing yourself the info would likely survive the test of a reasonable person at the border. One officer suggested scanning receipts, etc and emailing them as well.
(It also makes sense to document your gear this way in case you ever had to prove ownership, for whatever reason.)
You can also scan and mail the official green proof of ownership card (the Y-50 or whatever they're called, it's been years, I fergit).

However, I've since gotten the 7D and several lenses (including the three L's), so I really should get another Y38 done. However, the thought of finding the Customs office around Pearson does exactly not thrill me....
I've gotten both of my bodies in Canada, but most of my lenses from B&H or Adorama.
As Canon shooters, we are really lucky that Canon USA and Canon Canada share the same warranty program so official "USA" Canon products from B&H/Adorama are fully covered warranty-wise in Canada.
However, once in a while it is actually cheaper to buy within Canada -- for example, I got my 100-400 from Aden in Toronto and 70-200/4 IS from The Camera Store in Calgary. (Remember, no PST if you live in Ontario and buy from Alberta/Quebec, vs. both GST and PST when you mail-order from NYC.)

However, the thought of finding the Customs office around Pearson does exactly not thrill me.... :rolleyes:Last time I was at Pearson, Customs was a little door somewhere on a main corridor, easy to find. But which terminal? I'll be flying from there today, let's hope I can find it. Just in case I don't have the time, I do have copies of the receipts for my new gear (all bought in Canada) and the green card for the old stuff (some from the U.S.). Wish me luck.

That's what I mean -- when I'm flying, I am so busy lining up to drop off my luggage and getting through security, that I don't have the time to seek out the Customs office and wait who knows how long to have the Form Y38 filled out.
If I am not flying, the thoughts of "driving all the way to the airport (probably fighting traffic both ways) plus paying $3 per 20 minutes for parking while I search for the Customs office then wait who knows how long to the get Form filled out" is not exactly appetizing....

Anybody in Canada want to host the Canon 50 1.8 "Nifty"? Adorama has kindly donated a copy and it's starting it's journey here in the Great White North.
Check out the thread here:

You should be an established member of POTN and be willing to host Nifty for a week or two, get out and shoot some photos, post them into the thread and mail Nifty to it's next host.
Sign up and let's see our Canada well represented!
