Nice NikeMikey: I'm not sure where the extra %10 came from haha but great. I get to Vancouver sometimes as I live in Victoria. Surrey is not such a bad place .... after all didn't you just get a CrispyCream Donut shop (I am sure for all the cops hee hee)

NikeMikey
25th of May 2004 (Tue), 03:20
We certainly did just get a Krispy Kreme. I don't see what all the hype is about though. I mean, they're just warm glazed donuts with every possible preservative jam packed in them as they can. I'd better stay away from that place if I wanna keep my figure :P

I am 110% Victorian (!) and almost 100% Canadian (working on my citizenship.)

Though I am new to photography I would love to join a club so that I can learn from you pros.

You can check out my gallery, and see if I am worthy of joining the pros. If not let me know how far I need to go!

Are there such things as honorary Canadians? I bleed red, white, and blue, but really love Canada. It's a beautiful place with warm, friendly people. Victoria is one of my favorite places in the world. That's a fact.

The only way you can become an honorary Canadian is to get Calgary Flames tattooed on yer ass and then that's only good till the regular season of next year. After that,Calgary sucks again!

IanD

Guys I have to agree with you. The West Coast is spectuclar in the scenery dept. I get out to Van a couple of times a year for meetings and to check out the biking at Whistler. However, we do have poutine here which is sorely missing in the West Coast life style and diet, but I will not hold that against ya'll.
Speaking of other Canadians, where the heck is Sheldon. He must be busy cause he is usually always around. Bet he is playing with the new IR filter. There are a few folks in here from Ontario. Step up and be counted!

How about if I spend more than $20.00 on gasoline driving up to Canada? Does that win me any points towards being an honorary Canadian? And if that and a quarter still doesn't buy me Canadian coffee, how about having a Canadian wife who keeps telling me she's going to retire in Canada everytime I mention retirement and Florida?

Wow, tons of Canadians it seems.

I just moved from Toronto to Wasaga Beach, about 2 hours north of Toronto. It's been a bit of an adjustment, I'm used to street photography in a bustling downtown, and now I'm learning to enjoy nature photography (not hard, since I've always been a keen hiker/camper/amateur biologist).

I haven't met anyone around here yet who shares my passion for photography. Know anyone?

PS. Was on an organized boat tour of the Rideau Saturday (Paul's Boat Lines) and the young tour guide was pointing out that some of the bridges we were passing under were named for ex Prime Ministers, i.e MacKenzie King.

The young wag proceeded to tell us that there had recently been construction of a bridge in honour of former Fiberal PM Chretien, but it had been burned............................................ ..

I thought we only had divisive politics here in the US.

I was pleased to see Brian Mulroney looking so fit during the Reagan funeral. Is he involved in politics at all any more?

Bruce Watson
14th of June 2004 (Mon), 11:28
Hi Belmondo,

Divisive politics in Canada? Oui Monsieur!

We are in the midst of a federal election campaign with D day set for June 28th.

The current government under Paul Martin is the Liberal Party which has governed since the last decade, mostly under Jean Chretien, the only PM who could speak neither offical language properly!

Irony that you ask about Brian Mulroney; When his Conservative government fell to Jean Cretin.. I mean Chretien, his name was dragged through the mud of many controversies, including bribery for procurement of aircraft orders, corruption, etc.

He was absolved and cleared in the past few years, some of the trials involving others connected to the scandals are still underway, but Brian has been reborn and has sued the Canadian government over the lambasting his reputation took.

So he is once again taking a position as a senior statesman and his reputation is being reformed. To my knowledge, he is now a partner in a senior law firm in Montreal but is no longer an active politician.

Brian Mulroney was one of the few modern Canadian PM's to have built and held good relationships with the US President. As the driving force and political chessmaster of the NAFTA free trade agreement he did some great work towards lowering trade barriers between the two countries.

Many voters were terrified when the process started, but the clear success of the agreement is certainly a legacy that Mulroney will be remembered for.

Jean Chretien and Paul Martin will both leave legacies as well, but maybe not as noteworthy or honourable.

My apologies to anyone's political views this posting may offend!

Politics are vicious not matter what country, eh?

Cheers

Bruce

poutine

When I think of Canada I think of 2 things. Poutine.... /<homer voice on> mmmmm Poutine /<end homer>

and Orchids.

I've done vacations to Cypress Hills, Alberta two of the last three years. Last year we also spent a lot of time in Eastern Manitoba. We were able to find several species of orchid for the first time there.

And mosquitos, well they are just orchid polinators.

Thanks Conk,

The forums have been a great help so far. I'm still learning the basics of photography and I'm still figuring out the functions of my camera but it's becoming addictive. I'm looking into a 2x teleconverter lense and some macro lenses as well. I've heard good things about Lensmate so I'll check them out.

I bought my wide angle and tele and the extension tube from them, great service and and have been very pleased with the lenses, I have found I use the Raynox 0.66X wide angle more then the tele, you get great DOF and is good in low light situations.

Scott

If people keep voting this way out here, I may take you up on the offer! ;)

Uh Oh, this could be a catching idea:lol:

Of course, absolutely, very welcome, etc.

The only thing is, it was an idea just thrown out there! Guess we may have to do some serious thought into this.

Let me put some thought into this and I guess start a new thread shortly.

Would be no problem for Sheldon and I to zip up for the day.

 AHEM  This could be the start of Poutine Wars:confused:

I've been considering the NCAPS (National Capital Area Photo Shoot) and possible timing and locations. I've been trying to nail down my summer schedule for work, and will have this done by the time I return from Coulee Dam end of next week(trying out the nifty 50 Belmondo just sent up:D ) I hope.

How to play local tourists? Special event (Festival Capital of Canada)? History tour?Architecture? Canal tour?

Maybe a Great Canadian Poutine Taste Off?

Idea got "back burner'd" due to work, but will be active shortly. Heck, I have'nt had my camera out in two weeks:shock: Got to remember: there is more to life than work, home maintenance/repairs and golf:lol:

Jazz....I just checked UPS tracking and the package is in Mt. Hope, Ontario (wherever that is).

When you spend $53 to ship a one-pound package, things happen fast. You should have it tomorrow.

The "I hope" was for getting my schedule laid down, I wasn't worried about the lens:lol: Didn't look quite right the way it quoted out, sorry.

We need to talk about that shipping cost, I want to pick up my share.

Sorry if I sounded like I was reacting to what you said. I really wasn't.

Don't worry about the cost. I'll let you buy me lunch the next time I'm in Canada or when you're in California. I am solely responsible for choosing to send it that way, and I'm the one who diddled away the weekend, thus making it necessary.

Besides, you might just find that this is the best dam (as in Coulee) lens you've ever used.

The last time I was in Edmonton I was playing a gig at the Cook County Saloon. It was one week after the big tornado hit that killed 27 or so people in a trailer park. I don't know if the Cook Count Saloon is still going but that had to be one of my favourite places to play on the road. Its been a long time but from what I remember Edmonton was a nice city.
And of course I did visit the West Edmonton Mall. Being from a small town in Southwestern Ontario Canada, I was indeed impressed.

The Keg is a good place:

Keg Steakhouse & Bar (Surrey and Cloverdale)

Phone: (604)583-6700

there will be no surprises as it's a high end steak house chain. Good food.

Take bit of a left after Frankfurt, up through Iceland to Greenland. At Greenland take another left to Newfoundland (the Rock) and ask for directions (Nova Scotia was populated by Newfoundlanders (newfies) who went broke on they're way to Toronto)
