Last time on TV I heard someone say something really thoughtful and funny about photographs :

Isn't it funny how people look younger on older photographs ...

That gave me the idea to start this thread.

Anyone's got funny/thoughtful/interesting/etc quotes and sayings about photography?

Bring'em... :D

From my favorite photographer:
When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence. ~Ansel Adams

And one for a chuckle:
If you saw a man drowning and you could either save him or photograph the event...what kind of film would you use? -Anonymous

A good saying and also a great rule of thumb for action photography,

If you saw it happen, you didn't get the shot.

And since now that I am working with DIY studio things (made a light tent this weekend..time for macro shooting :) ) I especially like this quote since I can't afford the expensive professional studio gear.

It matters little how much equipment we use; it matters much that we be masters of all we do use. -Sam Abell

I had this quote in mind for a very long time (years), I just couldn't remember it exactly. My math teacher in high school used to say it all the time. I finally found it

It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

It is better to learn for the mistakes of others, thereby making you twice as smart as you might otherwise be. I have said this a few times.

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take, and, statistically, 99% of those you do.

If practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect, then why practice?

Ok, so that's terrible advice. :D

An amatuer photographer takes a thousand photos and shows you them all. And a professional takes a thousand photos and shows you one. (not sure who said it first)

As a multi-musician I can tell you that this old adage is wholy incorrect. It should be "perfect practice makes perfect." I think the new one applies to everything including photography.
