Be careful.... I had the CF 512 Sandisk on backorder with Amazon for six weeks now at that price. I finally cancelled the order Sunday night when they estimated a mid July delivery. I purchased a Toshiba 1G CF for $144.00 delivered instead. It is on the way to my door as I write. :)

Also, I think those are the ultra-SLOW cards too. As long as you're not shooting anything quick they'll be fine. You'll have slow writes from the buffer and slow transfers to your computer.

There is a general price decrease across the board now. This applies to most CF card types.

Yes they are. According to Rob G.'s chart, (I don't remember his full name) they're the second slowest cards on the market.
I can tell you they're slow from experience.... I have one. I don't need a lot more speed. (but I'd like to have it) It bothers me when I copy 500 MB of pictures onto my computer... takes minutes.

I've purchased a MagicStor 2.2 gb for my lovely 10D...
I've taken it to my trip to Greece...
I've lost a full day of shooting at the Acropolis...
I've returned it with rage to the shop !

Now, I've a second Sandisk Ultra II 512mb instead.

Don't trust this microdrive card, I've a lot of errors when recording photo and lost several one during this deadful day.
But, when I return to my hotel at night and transfer automatically photos to my Jobo Giga 2 (card reader + hard drive) I doesn't see final errors (that take a long time), so I've erased all photos.

Never happened with a solid state flash card !

Send it straight back when you get it

You'll loose less pictures that way ;)

I'm worried too. Are you saying don't trust Sandisk Ultra II 512mb? Cause that's what I bought...

You guys are fine. They are talking about a micro-drive, which is basically a miniature harddrive that works as a Compact Flash card. You both bought true compact flash cards. You shouldn't have any problems.

They are cheap, and not very fast.

Whether you find the speed to be acceptable or not will depend on what camera you use.

The one card that noone here will recommend, and that will immediately evince calls of "send it back!' is the Magicstor 2.2 GB MicroDrive, which is a particular brand of CF Type II miniature hard disk drive. Flash memory CF card problems don't seem to be statistically more likely from one company than another, although for long-term reassurance staying with a name brand like SanDisk or Lexar, and getting the fastest card you can afford are your best options.

Someone was asking about Rob Galbraith's CF Testing website: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

I placed a comment here as well: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=70475

My $0.02 (w/o rebate :D)

Problem with the Microdrives, are they are very fragile. So if they drop, you better pray it still works. You are better off buying a standard CF card.

Well, I've got 2x 1 GB and 1 x 4 GB IBM/Hitachis with no problems. The MagicStors seem to crash just from the vibration of the shutter.
