Well I finally got it. I was number 6 on the list at Pro Photo in Houston and when they got in the first shipment there was only one camera. It went to someone who had already paid for it up front. To make a long story short, I gave them my credit card number, and three weeks later, when the next shipment of "one" came in, I had my Mark II.
I am listing a link where you can see my first efforts. Not what I would call good, but on most of these I had not even looked at the manual. All images were shot with the 24-70 2.8 L lens. At the bar-b-Q, I was really trying to see how the camera handled strong back lighting. It was not perfect, but much better than the D60.
The studio shots were on manual settings at f8.5 and f11. The hand held meter reading was 8.5 and those shots at 8.5 were right on. At f11, they were about 1/2 under.
The birthday party was late afternoon with low light. Not a real problem and the prints look much better than the web site. The two shots outside the garage were in total darkness. Even with the 550 flash, they were about 1.5 stops underexposed. Post processing took care of that with out any problems. I only had the little garage light to focus with, but the Mark II was able to lock in what I thought was pretty quick time. The D60 would still be looking.
Everything was shot in Large jpeg. Unlike most of you, I only use raw when I really need it.
Bottom line. I love this camera and will probably love it more once I read the manual and figure out how to use it.
