Well I finally got it. I was number 6 on the list at Pro Photo in Houston and when they got in the first shipment there was only one camera. It went to someone who had already paid for it up front. To make a long story short, I gave them my credit card number, and three weeks later, when the next shipment of "one" came in, I had my Mark II.

I am listing a link where you can see my first efforts. Not what I would call good, but on most of these I had not even looked at the manual. All images were shot with the 24-70 2.8 L lens. At the bar-b-Q, I was really trying to see how the camera handled strong back lighting. It was not perfect, but much better than the D60.

The studio shots were on manual settings at f8.5 and f11. The hand held meter reading was 8.5 and those shots at 8.5 were right on. At f11, they were about 1/2 under.

The birthday party was late afternoon with low light. Not a real problem and the prints look much better than the web site. The two shots outside the garage were in total darkness. Even with the 550 flash, they were about 1.5 stops underexposed. Post processing took care of that with out any problems. I only had the little garage light to focus with, but the Mark II was able to lock in what I thought was pretty quick time. The D60 would still be looking.

Everything was shot in Large jpeg. Unlike most of you, I only use raw when I really need it.

Bottom line. I love this camera and will probably love it more once I read the manual and figure out how to use it.

Hay Congrats Bill.. it is a dream machine.. but you do have to watch the exposure I find.. once I got used to it.. it was not too much trouble but it does behave diferently than the 10D for sure.

Ouch! I see you are from Houston too. Sales tax had to kill you on your purchase....

Glad you got it.
Now the fun begins.

Congrats on your new purchase.

Looking at your web space, I noticed the Coke can on the reddish table cloth. Just wondering what the actual color of the table cloth is?

Consensus seems to be building that if you want good reds out of camera (JPEG) on a subject that is very intense red and bright enough so it might be over exposed, to use the AdobeRGB parameter and set the Color Tone to +2.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses and tips. The coke can and table cloth looked pretty much on target on my monitor. I held up a coke can next to my monitor and the color was very close. However, I have now read the manual and am playing with all the controls. Have a wedding in two weeks and hope I can get comfortable with the camera by then. There is a lot to learn and I am a slow learner.

Yes, the tax in Houston will kill you, but I bought the Mark II with my tax no. so there was no tax. Equipment used in a business is not taxed.

I am having trouble with the software though. I can't get the raw adjustment tool pallette to open up. I think it is a glitch in my computer, but so far have not been able to get it adjusted. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Congrats!! You are going to love it and it will love you back. The first camera capable of loving it's owner. LOL
