circular polarizer, OK, but which one?

Hi dear friends,
inorder to increase sky blue color and contrast in landscape pictures, all of us know that the best way is to get a Cir polarizer. pb is that there are soooooo many brands and a WIDE variety of prices out there, from $50 up to $250. does the brand matter here ? is a quality issue ?
it's about a 77mm fileter for the canon 17-40 Igot and I LOVE

Don't put cheap glas in front of a good lens. Buy a good multicoated one. I use B+W.

I always go with HOYA. Mainly because that's what my local photostore is selling. My first filter was HOYA, and I've just.. stuck with it.. Works great for me. Not the cheapest ones, but not as expensive as B+W either. What do you other guys/girls think of HOYA?

In my opinion, Hoya is a good brand, much better than ProMaster or Sunpak.

I have chosen to go with B + W. One of mine is a thin one that does not have the front filter thread. They give you a special plastic lens cap to use with it. On a warm day the cap will fall off of the lens by itself due to expansion. I will stick with the regular B + W filters, and I will not get another one like that.

Hello:

I second the opinion that B+W is a great choice. We also use their thin circle polarizer with our 16-35L lens. It cost us a bundle, but worth every penny.

I checked in adorama.com and it seems that my choice will be either the B+W or hoya multicoated / UV hybrid filter. hopefully my landscape skys will appear a bit bluer :wink:
