Hi all,
I have a fujifilm dm-r1 firewire card reader, when my d10 formats the card the reader wont reconise the card, from other posts this seems to be a common problem, but if I format the card on my other halfs g2 I seem to be able to shoot and the reader will read the card, and | can delete ok as long as I dont format! Can this do any harm to card or image if I dont format the card in my d10 for a long time?
Many thanks for any help Eddy

Why do you format your card? I am not suggesting formatting is wrong. I am just wondering why you do. I don't think I have ever formatted a flashcard. I have a 10D, a Lexar firewire reader, and Lexar cards. I haven't had any trouble.

the format debate came up a while ago, i format whenever i need to clear all the photos off the card, it's much quicker ;-)

Hi and thanks for youe input!"
Why did I format my card?" Ok my fujifilm firewire card reader would not reconise a cp card above 256mb so when I used my 1 gb ultra I had to download the files via usb zzzzzzzzz.......... so in my quest to try and get my card reader to see bigger cards and download via f/wire I tried all sort drivers, rebooting, updates, image quantity all sorts till by fluke I formatted my 1gb card on the mrs G2 to see what happened then to my suprise the card reader read it! formatted it on the d10 no go! G2 again no probs so I formatted all my big cards on my G2 and hey presto the card reader finds them no problem.
So the ? is
Do I never need to format my cards again? (dont mind the speed it deletes) can any damge be done to my card formatting in a G2 and using in a D10? Is there any damage-loss to the image using this method.
I have heard it boils down to formatting in fat 8-32 but this is beyond me at the moment.
Again thanks for your help with this!

If I'm not mistaken, when you select "Erase All" from the review screen, the folders are emptied but are left behind on your card. I've gone back into cards that had an empty folder on them. Now that I format each time, the empty folders are a thing of the past.

Eddy, this is a known problem with this paticular reader. Dump it and get a newer USB-2 or Firewire reader. Fuji have no intention of making this old reader compatible.
