everywhere i looked, 1D MK II is out of stock, but on the forum, there seems to be many 1D MK II owners, just out of curiosity, how many of u actually own this "beautiful beast"? and how many of u have it on ur wish list? I know i want one for myself for sure, but from the look of it, it'll be on my wish list for a good while until i have enough money saved up :?

Of course WE have them.. this is the Canon Digital forums

You just needed to use the secret handshake! :P

Ahh yes..The secret, Canon handshake. Seen by many, known by so few.

The ones that have MKII made the decisions and placed orders some time before it was released. A few lucky ones (very few) made last minute decisions and snagged a loose camera or two but most of us had pre-orders for months.

I placed my order Feb 23, 04 and received the camera last Friday, May 21.

Some day :D

Some day in the future I think I will get one, but not until

- I have the L-lenses I want
- I have saved enough money

so at that time a MK IV might be out

No disrespect to any Mk II owners (I'd certainly invest if I was much richer) but I'm saving up for a full-frame sensor model. There's got to be one coming from Canon in the next year or so? Hasn't there? :(

Also I'm terrible at maths and don't want to keep multiplying all my lenses by 1.6 ;)

OK. Now I am just a little pissed. While I have been very patient, I ordered mine at CDW on February 18, 2004 (just double checked my extranet). I have been a SIGNIFICANT customer for 5 years. Perhaps they do manipulate things over there. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Hope that was a typo Jim. I need to call my local SALES MANAGER, not wasting time with the account rep any longer.

Yep, of course. But it's getting on a bit now. I'm waiting for a 1Ds MK II... :)

At this stage, I can't justify getting a $4500 camera and not to mention the wait! For now it is fill the gap I have in the 70-120mm area then get some other cool bits for the 10D which I have no real reason to replace other than for the "it would be cool" factor. The 10D is a great camera and it has and will continue to serve me wonderfully.

Actually got hold of 2 of them the week they were released. Its gotta be the good living and clean air.....oh ya, I live in LA....maybe its was just the good living.......

I was fortunate enough to time a major purchase of equipment with the release of the MkIIs and was able to coerse a few cameras out of the sales staff.

Anyone ever consider doing a group buy to see what that would get ya? I know the folks I have dealt with tend to listen more carefully when you mention sales of $20-$30K at a time. Maybe a regional group buy? Just a thought.

i think u'll have to ask mod or admin to do that for u, unfortunately. But, i'm sure everyone here knows that u r a 1D MKII owner, that's what it really matters, isn't it? :D

SnJPhoto, i'm sure they do listen when u mention that figure, but the problem with many folks here is that we don't have a good living as beautiful as in LA, and i hardly know anyone with my region has that kind cash to go with, the ones with cash, their clients probably already paid for them

oh well, one day ...

What I was trying to say was, pool your resources. If only 5 people get together and order together at someplace you already talking $22K. So you are instantly a "big fish". Unfortunately you are correct, not everyone is near a pocket of folks to pool with.

Maybe for the 1Ds upgrade we can organize something like this.

1Ds upgrade  i don't know whether i should take it as my sweetdream or a nightmare(imagine getting all these cash together ...)

(looking for my winning lottery ticket ....) think i'd better get back to work ... :(

Count me in, too. Ordered mine around March 3rd from Adorama and got it in early May.

I moved up from a 10D (and D60), so I'm still trying to memorize what the 20+ buttons on the camera do...

I have one. Next to the 550EX, it is the most counter-intuitive piece of technology I own. We are starting to bond, however.

I read myself to sleep reading the users manual a couple nights ago, and woke up the next morning with the manual and the camera in bed with me. Many of us joke about loving our cameras to the point of obsession, but I must confess to having slept with mine.

ordered one in April from FotoCare in NYC -
went to their Canon Day on May 13th
to see the DPP software demoed -
was promised a 1DmII by the end of May -
got a phone call on May 17th that it was in -
FotoCare is getting 2 or 3 cameras in
on a regular basis - if you want one it would
be worth it to call them

Any of you guys receiving err messages with your Mark II's while shooting with 70-200 IS? I had mine lockup three times last weekend and have heard that it's an issue... I haven't been able to recreate the problem with my other body or even with the original body ever since but you know how Murphy's Law works!!!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

I've had mine for a little over a year now. It's certainly a huge step up (build wise) from the XXD series.

Maybe I'll consolidate my two cameras (1D and 30D) into one by getting a 1D MkII, but I just can't get myself to do that because of the lack of good UWA lenses that match the 10-22. That's just about the only thing holding me back, but I'm shooting UWA less and less now...

I love my 1DMKII. I really wish I could change my 30D for another. Just too expensive though. And glass and other accessory upgrades are far more valuable at this point. But I want!!

16-35 works excellent on the 1D.

Me too, at least an slr. I had a two MP Nikon which was the talk of the the town for about a month, and then came 3mp 4mp 7mp etc within a short time. I love to see someone else stumble onto an old thread and breath life into it, as I did a while back, also on the Mark II where I revived the question of what will be the III N?

I really, really want the II N, I made a couple of offer to Ronald on his. BUT, I also don't want one now and then have a Mark III come out in April. If I knew for sure if there would be a new one, or if there was, would it be a REAL improvement, I'd not be in such a quandary. Oh well, the 30D is a wonderful camera. I love how they keep making improvements in technology and how we benefit (except our check books) from the new stuff. We definitely live in exciting times when it comes to technological improvements. Come on Mark III N!!!!!!!

I probably should have just boght Ronald's, I think I was offering just under what he would take, so as not to buy it. ???

I have the 1D MK I currently and I will be selling it within about 2 weeks to upgrade to the MK II. I have seen it somewhere on here but I was wondering what the difference between the MK II and the N version is and if it's substantial enough to be searching for that version. I don't plan on purchasing new as I have found plenty on KEH, Adorama, and B&H used and in excellent condition. Plus if it isn't up to my standards I can always send it back for a full refund too.

Then Im going to upgrade my 70-200 2.8 to IS.

So I have the future plans all set in motion....

in my own opinion, the upgrades of the N model are not worth the extra money but i am sure that some people will disagree. the upgrades are:

bigger buffer (never was a problem on my mkII)
bigger LCD (i rarely use mine plus the one on the mkII is the same resolution IIRC)
picture styles (i always shoot RAW so it doesn't do me any good)
with the N you can write raw to one card and jpg to another card (that is a nice feature)

i think that this is it but i might have forgotten something...

Lani Kai
28th of December 2006 (Thu), 15:38
I could use a bigger buffer than what I have on my 1D MkI... Especially in RAW

Ouch! Give the poor guy a break. My dealings with him were honorable and he appears to be an alright guy in my book. The thread about wagering when he'd sell his equipment was too harsh on him, and got out of hand.

doesn't matter if you have to wiat untill you reach the limit factor or not, enjoy what technology offers to us, no wrong if you buy another body or many and use them with the time, i don't find any difficult to use all of my 6 cameras.

nothing wrong with it but it is a waste of money that some people just can't afford to waste. i can't think of a single reason to own 6 bodies except for bragging rights.

here in my region, even you have limited budget you can buy all what you want with your limited budget, i know many got 3 mobiles instead of one, what do you think? I don't want to talk about some who got more than 3 cars.

People collect a lot of things, and why not something practical that can be used in a creative hobby? Large lens collections may be more common but I see nothing wrong in having six cameras. People who complain about it are just jealous they don't have the means to do it themselves.

Not sure it is jealously, but I have to say, it surely is no one's business how many camera's a fellow or gal may have!! Now, if they were asking me for a loan......................... hehehe
