I'm going to send my Sigma 70-200ex in to have it checked for a front focusing problem. The warranty card says to provide return postage. When I called they said return postage was not necessary. What has been your experience? :?

I purchased a different new Sigma lens in January 2003. Within one month, the autofocus quit. I called Sigma, and they said to send it in with a copy of the receipt showing how new it was. I sent it via UPS (my cost). They got it, fixed it, and returned it to me (their cost). It worked.

Most of a year later, it quit again. I called to Sigma... the whole process was repeated. It worked.

So far, I am out the cost of two telephone calls and two UPS fees.

I had an issue with autofocus on my Sigma lens today, but it was not the fault of the lens.

I had my zoom lens cranked out all the way (long) and I had a x1.4 teleconverter on (and it still wasn't long enough). I was aimed at some birds that were way, way out there. When the birds were on the sunny side of the tree, I could shoot with autofocus engaged, but when the birds were on the shady side of the tree, it was too dim, so autofocus hunted and failed. So, I simply had to remember to switch over to manual focus mode. After I had done that for about a dozen shots, my left hand knew where to find the AF/MF switch.

Well, I sent it out today. Hopefully it will be back in less than a month. :? I did just purchase a 100-400L to handle the long end while it is gone. :D The problem with the Sigma focus was it always focused just a bit in front. I was thinking about this and all the backfocusing posts about the 10D. I wonder if Sigma calibrated in a little front focus to try and compensate? I'll let you know if it focuses any better when I get it back. Other than the small focus problem it does take some mighty nice pictures when the focus is on.

Taken with Sigma 70-200. I'm not sure where the focus point was but it came out very nice.
