I made some picture with G3 using flash. In all cases I was using AV mode with no flash exposure compensation. Pictures I did in the dark were all underexposed. Pictures, where I used flash as a fill-in because of backlight or low light condition were all overexposed.
I'd like to know, how do you normally set your flash?
At which distances is built-in flash effective?
Thank you

Flash range in Av is a function of the aperture you've set.
Sounds like you need to employ flash compensation.
I keep the flash exposure typically at -2/3 in P, Av, Tv, etc. The effective range in P at that setting seems to be about 12-15 feet, depending on largest aperture (zoom), ambient lighting and background. Many have found the flash over-exposes at the default setting.
I've been quite pleased with the built-in flash (given its inherent limitations), except for the ineffective red-eye reduction. Fill-flash has worked well for me.
Someday I'll get a 420 EX....

I did a few pictures today against the sun with flash exposure set at -2/3 and they turned out quite well. Thanks for the tip.
