Hey guys, I'm sure someone else must have thought of this, but I can't find anything about it anywhere, so maybe you can help me? Is there a converter out there to convert avi files off my pc to play back on a canon digital camera? I'm sure someone must've done it!
Also, any chance of some advice? I'm about to buy (I think) an IXUS 70 (sorry, not sure what model that is in the US - it's the really small retro square one), but I don't think it has optical image stabilization - does anyone know if getting a camera with IS is a good idea or not?
Thanks, Byrd1

IS is nice, but I wouldn't let it be a deal-breaker. As for the Ixus 70 - I don't know which US model it'd be either. The SD700IS is an Ixus 800, the SD750 is an Ixus 75, and the SD800IS is an Ixus 850. Other models map equally nonsensically.

Thanks Jon - that's very helpful. What does everyone else think about IS? I'm now pretty sure that the UK ixus 70 is the PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH - do you guys think this would be a good starter camera for me? I want to use it as an intro to digital cameras and then I might like to learn more about them - does it give any manual controls. Also I love the sound of that time lapse video recording - has anyone tried that? Finally, does anyone know much about playing back videos as I mentioend before? Thanks for all the help guys.
Cheers,
Nick (Byrd1)

No manual controls to speak of (you can't set aperture or shutter speed, only ISO and exposure compensation). If you want those, you'll need to look at the PowerShot Axxx series (and not all of those have it either). The A570 has IS and manual controls (full manual where you can set shutter and aperture, as well as shutter-priority and aperture-priority auto-exposure).

There is a program for converting M-JPEG videos to be played with the canon A540. Look here:

But it didn't work with my S45. Try it and give feed back if it works with you.
The program comes from a Russian Forum. Since I don't speak Russian (only Spanish, English, German and French :D), I cannot post in that forum :(.
Do you speak Russian?
