I wanted to get my firsr dslr from a reputable seller on ebay. But didnt do it for the following reasons after doing some research and asking around.

1. Unlike cameras sold in retail, they are refurbished cameras in factory packaging, and most of the time will only have a 3 month warranty as opposed to the 1 year or 2 year warranty you get from the manufacturer.

2. They they will try to sell you the extended warranty plan three years or five for extra.

3. They will also try to sell you accessories, extra batteries, cheap lenses, for a bit extra.

4. The bonus items cost them nothing and are of poor quality. If you want them you can still get them, but do it without buying the camera from them.

5. They charge you extra for shipping. and by the time all is added up. The price is very close to what you get from a retailer.

I'd rather pay the extra bit of money knowing I will be getting the 100% authentic NEW item, and will be worry free with the 1 year warranty.

I would not buy expensive highly technical electronics from ebay or the sort, and I advise you not to. This is coming from a person that Loves ebay, and I buy many items on there.....just not my DSLR http://www.dcresource.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

I understand your concerns with purchasing on Ebay. But, I'd have no problem buying a factory refurb from a reputable vendor. I just recently got a 20D refurb from B&H for $700 and couldn't be happier. Yes, it only came with a 90 day warranty, but it is for all intents and purposes a new camera. I figured that most things either work straight out of the box, or they don't, so the 90 day warranty really wasn't an issue. I did end up getting a 2 year extended warranty for $35, which I felt was cheap insurance.
