I hve to begin by stating - I am most emphatically NOT good enough to be a judge of anyone else's work. Indeed, when I entered last week's contest, I totally forgot that the winner had the judging responsibility. B ut I will give it a try.

Everyone's entries were lovely. Some were breathtaking.
In order to make my job easier, I am going strictly by the exact title of the competition, which is "reflection". Therefore, that which is reflected must be seen as the subject of the composition, not just a part of the overall picture.

With that standard in place, I chose the following as the winners.

#1 - San Marco by dexdex
#2 - 75 Mile Beach by mickeydaeus
#3 - Minster In the Mirror by benarnold

Honorable Mentions to

Airport Reflection by urcina
and
old on new by PaulB

Both of these were nice shots of reflections, but weren't framed as well as the winners (in my opinion, of course).

Hoping I haven't annoyed too many of you

LOL, any other time these things linger on for hours before anyone closes and judges, today I miss by an hour and it's all done and dusted after just 12 minutes :(

Congrats to the winners, and good images submitted by all imho. Looking forward to the next one.

Mamma mia ! Thanks Venice, and thank you for choosing my picture
It was taken early in the morning, last May, form the Giudecca Island: the subject is too famous to call for any further comment.
Greetings from sunny Switzerland. Dex

San Marco by dexdex.

dexdex, congratulations! Yours was the second posting in this challenge and I've gone back to look at it every day. I'm totally charmed. Thank you!

nwyman, I was pleased to get honorable mention from you (airport reflection). I'm new at this and would like you to comment on what I should look for in framing this better. Thanks so much for your comment!

my feeling was that the front end of the plane was chopped off, and there were too many distracting elements in the foreground. I'd like to have seen the entire reflection of the plane, and not so much of the airport transport trucks and such on the tarmac. But that might just be a personal quirk of mine-and you were probably limited by your location in the airport.
I hate critiquing the work of others, so don't take my comments as gospel.:)

Congratulations to all the winners.... great shots guys !

Personally, I liked...
'Fire in the Water' by chrysalis - that's stunning shot !
'Colorful Canal' by drocpsu - simply awesome & sharp too.
'Minster In the Mirror' by benarnold - nicely done !

btw, can someone help to clarify if G-Series is allowed here ? Sorry, I am just curious, didn't mean to insult anyone.

There's (or should be) a similar competition specifically for the G-series running in that forum. They've been runing longer, and arecurrently on their 124th competition (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=336766). The one here is modelled after theirs.

Jon, I think abYss was asking a reasonable question that I had wondered about myself since this week's winner in *this* forum showed his entry was taken with a G7.

I participate in challenges on both forums and always understood this one excluded G-series cameras but now can see the rule is definitely ambiguous. I certainly wouldn't blame anyone for entering a G-series photo even though it hasn't happened before as far as I know.

Here's what the rule says:

1. Camera -- Any Canon Powershot Series Camera (SD, A-series, S1/2, & S-series only...No Pro 1's!!!)

Now a G7 is definitely a Powershot and it is smaller (I think) than the S1, 2, and 3 cameras that have been allowed here even though the forum is for "small compact digitals" which I think was originally meant to mean just the simpler, smaller Canons.

As far as picture taking ability is concerned, all the little Canons from A75 up to the G7 are quite capable of taking superb photos, as has been shown by the winners on this forun which have generally been at least equal in quality to the ones on the G-series forum, so it's not really a matter of the G-series cameras having an advantage.

Another rule that I think should be revisited - and maybe scrapped - is the one about maximum file size since it is often misunderstood and/or ignored by entrants and even judges. For example, challenge #74 was won by an image that should have been disqualified at more than 350K - *way* over over the limit.

Perhaps this discussion should be moved to a new thread?

The history of this challenge, including contests and winners to date (as and if the contest judges remember to update them) is here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=133933). The Moderators don't run either this, or the G-series, contests. Enforcement of the rules is up to the judge of the contest.

It would be my assumption that the "No Pro 1's" refers to the PowerShot Pro 1, PowerShot Pro 90, et al. being specifically included in the equipment list for the G-series Forum.

I apologise for missing the fact that the winning pic was taken with the G7. I did notice that there were two photos who were not regulation size, and I notified one entrant, who then complied with the rule.

Will now go back and hide under a rock.
