View Full Version : Most Users Online At One Time - A June Thing?

I occasionally watch the stats at the bottom of the main forum page that show the high watermark of users, and I remember that it was set in June of last year - until today, when we set a new high around 13:00 EDT.
So is it coincidence that the high is set two years in a row in June? Is there some sort of usage pattern? Should Pekka and the powers that be plan for capacity upgrades in June (or late May to keep things flowing?) Ironically, when I first submitted this thread I got a message that the server was too busy - and when I backed out all of my original thread was lost. Hmmmm.
Not too big a deal really, just rambling a bit - but I am interested.
Have Fun,

I just noticed the same thing about the # of users, and for the same reason. I got a timeout trying to post a response, and was curious to see if the site was just coming back up after problems (I've seen as few as a couple hundred users online a few times when I've just timed it to login after an outage was resolved).

Apparently we got "Slashdotted" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slashdot_effect). The server took it quite well, actually.
PS. a new very powerful server has been rented. I'm setting it up now.

I was guessing that POTN got linked to for something -- wasn't the last big June rush the airbrushing tutorial?

I figure that the people who got D-Rebs for Christmas finally took them out of the box and couldn't turn them on.
But I could be wrong.

Interesting!
How do you change a link into a word such as "See here"? I see these occasionally and could use the technique!
Thanks,

When you are entering a response notice that one of the tiny little icons above the text-box has a blue round thing (the WORLD, as in WORLD WIDE WEB) with an chain link. Remember that for a moment.
Start by highlighting the text you want to link, the standard Click+Drag will do. Condy did that with the word "here". Then click on that Icon I mentioned above, and it will open a window where you can enter a URL.
Certain paranoid versions of IE will ask you if you want to allow scripting, or some damned thing. Just say "YES"

You mean if I wanted to link you to the 100-400 samples, I would say click here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=144028)? (well I'll be darned, it worked! Thanks Rad!)
