I've just reprocessed the photos from the other day. I fancy I might have over brightened a few by a third of a stop. Anyway, comments and critiscisms please - feel free to add to the coments on my photo album site
I did this wedding free for somebody who could't afford to hire a photographer. Personally, I think they're a lot better than the hired photographer I had when I got married.
Here they are: http://picasaweb.google.com/rhyssage/Newwedding

wow, that place is dark and those curtains sure didnt help. what time was this shot?
I wish u used 2 flashes cuz your shadows are really strong against the walls or tried to bounce the light off roof. And some of the backgrounds are really unphotogenic, but cant do anything bout those.
and doing a wedding for free in my book is a no no, cuz it cheapens your work and other photographers. what if they told all their friends that why hire a photographer, rhys will do em free? At least, id say pay me what u can afford but free, never!!

I only have one flash. For that wedding I used: 30D, 430EX, 17-85IS.
The roof was too far to bounce flash. It was a sports hall used for basketball etc. The lights were mostly turned off and candle light used as illumination. It was romantic and I had a blast doing the photography.
I've had people offering to buy prints. I shall have to see how that pans out. I'll probably do a catalogue and let people order through the bride and groom.

Personally, I think there's too much flash used, and not enough ambient light. They look very 'deer-in-the-headlights' to me. Sorry if you dont agree. :)

It's not that I don't agree that ambient light would have been better. If I had used ambient light I would have had shutter speeds of 1/2 second at f4. There was basically no ambient light worth noticing.

yeah, thats why i said that place looked dark!! not much u can do with a room like that.
and, as long as the couple are happy, no problem-O.

Wow. I had a phonecall from the sister in law of the bride today. She found my photo album wasn't working. I'd only just re-uploaded after doing some more culling. Now I've changed from picassa-only hosting. Picassa hosts a mirror now but doing my own hosting means people can see file names ready for ordering. Nobody can print though as it's jpeg VGA low qality.

Hey rhys -
It's quite a workout doing a wedding isn't it!?! Can turn your brain to mush by the end of the night. All things considered, whats been said here and in dcresource, you went out and actually DID it and posted!
I can appreciate the difficulty of the venue that you were presented with and its better to DO IT and POST than talk about it and NOT POST! BRAVO!
There are no mistakes in life, just learning experiences.
The moments were captured, memories saved and B&G are happy. What more could you ask for your first time in horribly dismal lighting conditions and for FREE.
As for posting and presenting, I am currently using Smugmug and i like the way it presents and organizes. You can make sure that file name show, set your own pricing and a TON more features with the professional version for $150/yr. PM me if you want more info.
Forward progress!!

The boring bit was all the group shots but the bride had everything organised and organised all the photos for me. I did all those she wanted and wandered around taking ad-hoc photos as I saw them.
I thought about smugmug but was put off by the price. I'd rather get orders in via the B&G and then order online and get them printed myself. It's more work but I don't have to spend money. Later, if I get more bookings (if people like and want my work) then I might go for something like that. I used smugmug before and didn't earn a bean in sales.

Culling is basically deleting or discarding all photos that do not make the grade, either because the exposure is well off, or the focus is out, or for other reasons....

How did you do it for free? I spend about 30% on material costs alone.
