Ok, I have had my "new" G2 for about a year and a half and have been playing with it all the time.... who knows how many pictures have been snapped with that camara, now I want to play with other things like lenses and filters and the such.... can anyone recomend other items to go with my G2? I was told & after reading posts here all day I see that you can change out the lens but how?

Thanks!

You don't change out the lens, rather you stack other lenses or filters in front of it, using an adapter tube that screws on in place of the shiny silver ring that the lens cap seats on (it does unscrew--may be quite tight at first).

Search in the forum for "converter" or "wide angle" or "teleconverter" etc. Tons of good info.
Check http://kazutoku.cside.com/G1andG2/report1_eng3.htm for a nice comparison of converters.
Also http://www.lensmateonline.com/G2start.html I've seen nothing but positive reviews of their product and service. They primarilly sell the adapter tube, but also a lot of good accessories for it. If you browse around on their site, they have some comparison images of various lense combinations also.

and

are some common choices for lenses. But the Olympus WCON/TCON series are also highly regarded, though they are pricey, and evidently heavy--those two seem to be linear with quality :)

You might also search on this forum for "accessories" I recall seeing several good threads on most recommended accessories (generally tripods, external flash, and filters top the list)

I purchased the lens adapter & a UV filter from lensmate. I use this combo instead of the standard cap from Canon. This allows the lens to zoom out to its normal position when you turn it on. I also have the Tiffen 2x teleconverter and adapter, with a UV filter. I just exchange one system for the other. Also have the Canon 420EX flash. It is awesome. Took Christmas pageant shots with the Tiffen and 420EX. They were crisp and bright.

Hi i'm new to the forum so forgive me for bringing up a thread so old.

I've been searching and reading threads for hours now
Nice forum everyone seems very helpfull :)
Ive got the standard wide converter from cannon wc-dc58 0.08x And I am very happy with it.
I'm looking for a zoom lense and was wondering if anyone has tried this one... http://www.bugeyedigital.com/product_main/ckc-cvlx8.html

And was wondering if someone could recommend what type of filter should i get to take surf shots.
Living in Fla the sun is tuff in the morning shinning off the ocean.

Thanks in advance and i'll post one of my better images i've takin with my G2...
I took this outside one morning with the wide converter and in macro mode.. Came out pretty sweet :) Warning the image is big. But worth it!

Beautiful shot, btw!

Search for CrystalVue in these threads--I've heard lots of great things about that tele-converter, though.

Try a linear polarizer for your water shots--that's the ideal case for it, but it's also useful in many other situations (reducing glare off glass, leaves, etc.; deeper blue skies).

I think you will need to get a circular polariser for the G2 otherwise the autofocus will not work very well.

Linear will work. It doesn't have a prism or mirrors in it, so it's not a problem.

I have a G2, and my linear polarizer works fine with autofocus.
Circular polarizers are only necessary when there is a mirror/prism between the autofocus and the light. This is almost always the case with DSLRs, but some fixed lens cameras also do that, so it's a good thing to check.
Circulars are 2 - 3x more expensive, and since it's unlikely that your next camera will use the same diameter thread, I don't see the point in dropping the cash on one in the hopes that you can re-use it on a DSLR a few years from now. I'd spend that money on a linear that is multi-coated; there is a significant difference in quality/flare issues.

Whoops--s00pcan beat me to the punch. Wish these boards were real-time...

Interesting .... I dont have a polariser yet ... but I have read many a post on forums and on web documents that say you need a circular for the G series.

I will do some more digging.

I have the lens converter from LensMate for the G3. It is great. I use the Raynox lenses (DCR-1850PRO for telephoto, 1.85X and the DCR-5000 for wide angle, .5X). Generally happy with both lenses, but the wide angle can be a little soft around the edges.

Here is a telephoto shot with the 1850...
...I find the lens is quite sharp and also gives me a shallower depth of field.

Check http://www.ckcpower.com/cvlxlens.htm
They sell the CrystalVue also, as well as adapters. Also several G2 links on their page.

I'm guessing that the Canon lens adapter tube is not going to match this lens/scope.
