I'm just getting into macro photography and caught this little guy in my yard. I think a tripod would help me out a lot to get some better depth of field. Hopefully Amazon will deliver tomorrow. :-)

Doesn't look to bad to me, what f stop did you use? As a general rule, I use 1/200, f11, ISO 200 with my Sigma 150mm macro lens.

Nice sharp shots. I find a tripod gets in the way a bit and resulted to using a monopod now and then.

Tripods just get in the way - by the time you set up the dragon will have gone.

Would be more than happy with shots like these - were these taken with your macro lense?

Thanks to all for the comments! I did take these with my 100mm 2.8 macro. I just figured with a tripod I could stop it down a little more and get some better depth. I took some others real close and they deffinitely suffered from shallow depth. I'm still learning macro, photographer in general for that matter, and have read that you want to get f9 or higher sense you are so close. Does that sound about right?
