I've been asked if I am capable of photographing historic documents like music manuscripts. I'm a little wary as to how I answer the question.

I currently have a 350D, kit lens, 70-200F4L and various other bits of kit but am looking to upgrade to a 5D with a 24-105L.

Do I have the necessary kit to be able to perform this task or do I need some seriously specialised kit.

I did look at a website called DAIMM who do a similar thing but they use a camera that sounds like it has scanner heads instead of CCD, and captures images at 144 megapixels.

Would I be getting myself into something that is too advanced for the kit I have/will be getting?

Buy an old copystand and a couple 500w halogen lamps and you are in business.
No need to overcomplicate a very basic and simple process.
