Had been going thru the posts and it seemed that there are quite a number of people having the "L" lens. I'm thinking of building up a couple of L lens myself.

Care to share ur collection of cameras and Lenses?
Would like to know what are some of the better and "worth it" L lens u all are using... :)

16-35 & 17-40 seems a lot of overlap? Why both?

I have the Canon 16-35mm F2.8L and Canon 24-70mm F2.8L. For cameras, I have a Canon EOS 10D and Canon EOS 50E (aka: Elan IIE in the US). I really like the L glass I have in addition to the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX lens. The latter is a real beast of a lens at 5 3/4 lbs. Tell me about a 300mm F2.8 lens that isn't lightweight! :)

As far as L lenses are concerned, I really think there isn't a way to go wrong. If you want to not spring for the over a grand F2.8L then there is the F4L option. I haven't used the F4L but I hear they are just as good as their F2.8 counterparts, but an fstop slower. Just be prepared to spend some serious cash.

i wouldn't mind 16-35mm, but at a price that high, i backed down and turn to 17-40, and i'm glad that i purchased this one, it made me the happiest man.

for now, my target is MKII + 100-400L.

I have the standard set of L series:

16-35 f2.8L
24-70 f2.8L
70-200 f2.8L IS
100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS

Worth every penny spent on them.

I also have the 100 macro. It is an awesome lens that could easily fall into this category as well.

Budget '05:
17-40 f/4L (A riding Lawnmower might push this off for another year)
100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS (would prefer something in a single f)

Budget '06:
400 f/4L DO IS (might consider kicking the 100-400 out to get this one but will likely have to forgo the mower AND 17-40 if I want to stay married)

Dreaming:
500 f/4L IS (I'm torn between this beautiful beast and whichever $5,000.00 Canon DSLR is available at the time.)

Have It:
70-200 F4L

Need It:
17-40 F4L

Want It:
24-70 F2.8L

BTW, the best bargains in the L series are the 70-200 F4L and the 17-40 F4L.

Also, if you want great L glass for a great price, have a look around for the discontinued 100-300 F5.6L. Mechanically it's not as good as the newer L series, but optically it's VERY good.

Oh I just can't win!!!!..

...it used to say quite simply "In Orbit" ... but some body was whining that we need to give our location in our profile... likewise I could give the lattitude.. but again.. such coordinates were not acceptable to those whining about location

Have ... EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM

Found out two weeks into owning the 10D I needed something wider than the 28-135 IS I had. Still, not as wide as I wanted but what a lens! And I was hooked on "L". (BTW ... putting the 17-40 on my new Elan 7NE, I found out it really is a wide angle lens ... happy camper here :D )

Hooked on "L" ... Only obvious next lens was the 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM. WOW ... what a lens! Not only for the impressive photos it takes but how 8) it makes you look while using it ...  Seriously ... this is a very impressive, L of a lens but not for the weak.

That's it but I have a feeling sometime, somewhere, down the road, I just may "invest" in more "L" glass. Hmmmm ... that 1200mm L lens looks like fun ...

Dream purchase:

85 f1.2 sigh

Have: 16-35, 70-200IS, 100-400IS

Note on the 16-35: It's W-I-DD-E, especially if you are not using a digital body. On the Mark II, it is almost too wide, unless you do a lot of wide angle work.

Want: 500 f4IS or 300f2.8IS

I have found that I rarely use the 100-400 at anything but 400mm.

Warning to those who have not shot any of the big primes....
You will most definitely spend all your time after shooting one, trying to figure out how to get one in your bag.

They are more addictive than the lesser expensive L's.

I've a 200mm/2.8L...It's very nice black, light, not very expensive, not as heavy than similar lenses.

I use it some time with the canon 1.4 extender that only suppress one stop with overall same quality.

It may be a little bit off topic (since we are talking about L stuff), but I may end up with the Sigma 15-30 which gets very high ratings in about every forum I know and is 3.2mm wider (on a x1.6 crop body) than the 17-40 ...
But as far as we are in this thread - I want the 16-35 ... 8)

I seem to be swimming against the tide here. Everyone has listed zooms. I will go the prime route. I think that the EF 135 f/2L is a beautiful piece of glass. Sharp and fast. It is also reasonably priced.........as L glass goes.

Oh well... it seems that quite a number of Canon users have or wanted the following L lens :
-> 17-40
-> 70-200 2.8 IS L

Personally these 2 lenses are in my "wanted list" including the 50 1.4 and perhaps the 135/f2...will start the 50 1.4 followed by the 70-200 2.8 IS L . Well..i think it is gonna take some time before i get all the lenses unless i strike lottery like mrwickham

Oh ya...come to think of it , i have not bought the lottery ticket this week!!damn..!

Couldn't resist:

In the Bag:
100-400 IS: via 401k loan in 2000 (wanted it really bad)

17-40: via which credit card needed damage after I damaged the other credit card for a 10D. (needed it really bad)

Want in the bag:
24-70: via which credit card wants damage because I need it. (dont know if I need it or want it)

Difference between want & need?
Canon L speaks for it self 8)
