just set focus to manual and put an X on the floor where u gonna stand so u can get back to same spot or, get a wireless remote to fire your camera!

Set something up where you'll be standing or sitting at approximately the same height/place where your face/eyes will be. Focus on that, shift the lens to MF, and the shoot away once you're in place. (I'm assuming you're using a DSLR).

If you use a remote release, you can have it autofocus on half-press. Then it's just a matter of getting a focus point right where your face will be.

Assuming DSLR here. Try tethering your camera to your laptop, and keep it near your posed position. Then you can review how you did before you move away from your pose, unless of course you're shooting really wide, and don't want a laptop in your picture. Since on the 30d you can adjust most setting, set your camera to a 2 second self timer, adjust from the laptop, fire, resume pose in less than 2 seconds, check work, repeat.
