When I download photos to my PC from my flashcard, I use the flashcard port thats built in to my 24" dell monitor. I've heard stories that the port is a read and write port, which can screw up the flashcard sometimes when downloading, or even corrupt photos and other problems.

Basically my question is. Which is the safest way to download photos from your flashcard to your PC? Thanks in advance.

Never heard of a flash port screwing up photos. I guess one could mistake the port as a directory and copy some files over to it or delete files from it. But a flash reader is probably the safest way to move files from a card to the PC putting aside any user error type of mixups.

I've got a Dell widescreen monitor (61cm) with built in flash card port - have downloaded several thousand photos without any dramas at all. Also used the SD slot (1Ds Mk II takes both cards) without any problems. Go for it.

I download all my photos via a CF slot in my printer as well as one via my Dell monitor. Have done thousands of photos this way with no issue.

I always just hook the Camara to the PC directly. The only other way I have to do it is with my HP printer. The printer is a lot slower since it is only USB 1.1.

I would say do what ever works for you.
