View Full Version : New Capture One LE Takes Away Functionality!

The new version of Capture One's DSLR software is being released today.
v3.5 of the LE version takes away the ability to output 16-bit TIFFs, does not add features that were promised only a few days ago (arbitrary rotation, for example), and offers only a partial fix for a long-known problem with clipped yellows.
And they want to charge for it, having billed it as a "major upgrade."
BOO HISS!

I guess I stick with what I got.. I suppose it did not add MkII support anyways? For that we need the full blown pro version.

Phase One website says that MkII is supported on Pro AND SE. I think that what is being attempted is to move the Rebel C1 users to LE and the LE users to SE or Pro by watering down LE.
I just bought LE for my DRebel, one of the reasons being the 16-bit TIFF function. Maybe I'll ask them for a refund since they have effectively removed support for LE via this "upgrade/downgrade".

Proof that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I have to give Phase One credit for listening to their customers. This was posted this evening:

New LE (16bit) and SE Releases next week <<<<<

P1 management has agreed to restore the full LE and SE feature sets. This is what I wrote earlier on DPR.
There will be a new release of C1-LE and C1-SE next week. In that release the following will be restored:
--16 bit output capability (SE already has this)
--Noise Reduction Sliders
--support for 3rd party profiles
I have been asked to convey the regrets of Phase One management for the confusion and mess that this release has caused our valued customers. Without going into details, there were some internal management procedures that obviously did not work correctly, and as a result a release not worthy of the C1 name and our loyal customer base was released.

Good news. Also, a smart marketing correction by Phase I.

I'm glad they saw the light. I *just* purchased C1-Rebel three days ago, knowing I'd need to upgrade to LE when the new version came out (they promised "very favorable" upgrade pricing...$39...well, I guess I save $10 over buying LE instead...).
I was quite concerned about their downgrade in features, but they came through in the end.
