I want to see a 100% crop in order to test its true sharpness.
I'm not convinced you have a sharp copy.

You could stack some teleconverters on a 300-800 and it would give you even more reach...

Exactly, the lack of a red ring on the barrel gives it all away. Just another consumer lens!!

I don't know but the EXIF shows they used CS2 on a MAC for processing. So maybe the pic is completely fake. ;)

It's not the lens that made the picture good, clearly it's the L series astronaut denoted by the red ring on the white suit :) He just photographs that much better than other astronauts.

Didn't Hassy develop special digital cameras for Apollo. Probably the same, but updated versions for the space shuttle.
They were film cameras. Even NASA couldn't get high-resolution digital cameras back in those days.

The lens designers chose green to offset the amount of green you'll be without in your wallet and bank account.

It's called an end cap or rear cap.

This is an old thread. If I remember correctly, the originally posted picture was a NASA close shot of an astronaut doing some extra-vehicular activity outside the International Space Station, in orbit.

The real one is available on Amazon now.
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-200-500-Ultra-Telephoto-Canon-Cameras/dp/B0013D8VDQ/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203370146&sr=1-23

Sounds a little expensive, but at least my Amazon prime will get me free shipping. :)
