Doesn't it stink when all your hard work and effort goes to Page 2 of the Share Photos Forum? It can be heart wrenching, watching as it slowly drops away, only to be found in the archives. I get tempted sometimes to add a little comment just to kick it back to page one. Am I alone? Share your feelings of abandonment and despair with me. Come on, I know how it feels!

I've never posted any photo in the net, but i can imagine how disappointed you are. I think a little "bump" doesn't hurt anybody. I'll look for it and do it for you...hold on.

Are you refering to "The Perils of Being a Photo Hound" ?

Pah! Try spending 2 hours creating a Photoshop tutorial, and watch for 3 days as it goes to 78 views without a single comment!

(Finally several people have commented today, which was a huge relief...)

I'm referring to all the pictures I've posted over the last year! It kills to see it go to page 2! I know I'm not alone.

It does kind of suck when your hard work slides off into oblivion. Guess that's just part of an active and popular board.

You can try to reply-back to every single reply you get - then it will become the reason someone else's post gets pushed back to page 2 and yours will stay at the top of the list.

I like this, it could work I'll help you.

me: Nice pic
you: Thank you
me: Oh no, Thank YOU
you: I meant thanks for noticing..
me: No really, it was a great pic, Thanks for sharing.
you: Thanks again
me: Whadya thanking me for - you took the damn pic. It's nice, I like it.
you: Great! Thanks!
me: Listen, you don't have to keep thanking me. Once was enough.
you: OK
me: Thank you
you: What's that thank you for?
me: Thanks for not thanking me again..
you: You're welcome
me: By the way - what lens did you use?
you: The 100-400
me: Nice lens, takes great pics
you: Yes it does, thanks.

See? We could keep any post at #1 for weeks! :D Maybe this isn't what you had in mind... but I'm game if you are. :)

Excellent Idea! Keep an eye out for it on my next thread.

Sometimes I look at photos without comment... that's not to say, I don't like it, but posting "great shot!" to everything I like would sound a bit repetitive. Sometimes my brain goes on vacation.

If someone posts several photos a day, I make it a point to post on the one I like the best :)

LOL....too funny!

Oh, wait, let me go resurrect one of my posts from page 150 (darn, there's no direct way to get to page 150 short of paging through each page one at a time :( ) and we can give this a try and see how it works out.

I agree with you. I only post if I see something I like or makes me think. (But between you and me, If you see my thread fading into oblivion, a kind post to bump it back to page 1 could be worth a few samolians.)
Tongue in cheek so far it hurts,

It is sad to see efforts fade away..

I reply in Share for three reasons really...

1: The number reason is when I really love an image and have something I want to say about it.

2: I also do it when I think an image is quite good... but I don't have anything clever to add.. so I will in essence "bump" it.. with an inane "wow" or "Great Shot" in the hopes that someone more eloquent may actually have something worth saying.

3: A new memebr with a pic and no response :) We are really good about this though.. so usually someone beats me to it.. but I hate to see a first time poster go straight to the "2nd page support group" without a single reply ...

yes i do it exactly the same way,

a lot of post from me are just "nice shot" posts,
and i also pick out the posts with no replies and work them up again.

to new members we should be very kind and always reply to their first post,

i fortunatly have never had a thread with no replies, maybe because others feel that they have to reply because i always reply to their threads

but remember that it got very crowded here, and there are so many posts that yours sometimes is on the second page before half the forum has seen it

don't get dissapointed and keep posting the pictures

There are some alternatives to the Share forum. If one requests critique on photo.net, he can get easily about 15-20 rating and few thousands of views.

There is a Russian site photosight.ru. I realize it's mostly for people who speak Russian, however, I've seen there a number of people who cannot speak Russian. Anyway, the site is devoted to photo critique. It has a very efficient ranking system. Not only pictures are being rated, but also photographers. One starts as an "amateur" and can reach the status of "Guru" if other people vote for him.

The site is very active, thousands are registered, and, I believe, there are about 1,000 very active members. Many pro and very talanted photographers. One can get on average 50 comments. Once your picture gets to the top list it becomes available for viewing for weeks or even months.

Another good feature is posting limit. It's 1 picture in 3 days for new members. One really has to choose his best shots for posting. Actually, it's something that can be used here too. Less picturs will be posted, more attention each picture would get.

However, there is one big "BUT". One has to comment on other people's photos in order to be noticed. I believe it's the same for all other such sites, including our "Share" board. May be only photo.net is an exception from that rule.

It's always nice to get comments. This forum seems very balanced though. Otherforums seem to have a select group of regulars who always get many replies no matter how good or bad the quality of their work is !

Yes there is... For this (General Chat) section, http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=37&topicdays=0&start=700 will take you there. (Just put that "start=700" on the end of whatever section you're in. Page 15 starts with topic #700...)

Thanks, Thomas. This is really useful information. There were a couple of time when I wanted to go through a memberlist and no matter how I sorted the listing, I still had to lot of paging to do to get to a particular individuals name (don't remember why I needed to do that but I do recall cursing to myself for not being able to get there immediately). :)
