I've been over Curtis' notes this morning, but I guess I just need a quick confirmation.

If I want to fire a 430EX off-camera with a optical slave device, is the following link all I need? Or do I need any other wires or funny connectors?

Thanks in advance!

well.. that optical slave device will need another flash on camera to trigger it wirelessly.

only other way is by using the pc connector on that adapter to a another hotshoe adapter for your cameras hot shoe

Youll need one of these if you dont have another flash to trigger the slave

That Wein slave adapter will work fine attached to your Vivitars but probably not your 430EX. EX Speedlites generally don't get along very well with optical slave adapters.

As mentioned, you'll need a "master" to trigger an optical slave anyway, so use the 430EX in manual mode, on the hotshoe or connected to your PocketWizards. Use the slave adapter on one of the Vivitars.

Thanks everyone.
I have two Vivitars and one 430EX. I also have 3 Pocket Wizards and I'm trying to avoid buying another one, so I'm trying to research the optical route.

If I follow Curtis' suggestions and use that optical thingy I posted earlier on one of the Vivitars, what part (or parts) do I need to connect the 430 to a PW? I just need to know what to buy and I'll buy it.

Thyanks a lot.. again!

what part (or parts) do I need to connect the 430 to a PW?You'll want one of these (http://www.paramountcords.com/proddetail.asp?prod=pw-mhsf1). I don't know if there are less expensive sources for that kind of adapter.

More info on various ways to fire off-camera flash units, with many product links, in this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=308108).

Thanks Curtis. I already read through that this morning (that's where I got the first link I posted). Unfortunately, reading that just led me to more questions about my specific set up.

Thanks for the paramount link.
