My gf's mum has asked me to take pics of her staff on her hospital ward

your talking about 100 pics max

she wants me to get lighting etc and cost it up

i have a 400d and kit lens...

i dont feel i can handle this and make it good etc but i dont wanna say no and let gf's mum down

what do you suggest people

ANY comments welcome

-edit- i have spoke to her today and she wants the lot costing including:

my time ( i have to take shots in the day and about 8pm so two rates of pay, both socialable and unsocialble)
lighting
framing and mounting etc
printing
my gfs time as i will use her laptop to show the people pics to ok them

i obviously dont want to charge overboard here and want her to want to take me on kind of thing. if you any costs etc i would be greateful

we are talking 20 shots on each shift and about 100 in total, about 4-5 boards which by the sounds of it need to be about a1 size ish

on a serious note, from our previous conversations on this last time you said this was going to happen, we said you will only really need to use a speedlite and bounce the flash, or go for natural backdrops with good natural lighting, getting in a rig etc will be OTT for the sort of use the pics will be getting.

defnitely get a speedlite. you can get by with the kit lens but stay at F8 and let E-TTL II do its job.

yes, it gives you a LOT better flash control. get it now, learn and play with it and prepare! good luck!

yes just get a 430EX, simple and works well.

you could get away with out it if you shoot in the right location imo though!

speedlites rock!

its bloody helped me working in the nightclub, as it focuses using an infa red beam as opposed to a series of short flashes! so people now no longer move out of the actual pics because they thought the focus flashes were the real one !! lol

I work mostly in healthcare (hospitals) worked full time for a hospital for 10 years before starting my own business 6 years ago. If you can't use a backdrop or studio lights I would recommend doing environmental portraits. The one good thing is most hospitals have very even lighting and the are well lit. Mostly florescent light but do a custom white balance and rock and roll.

Most of the time you will probably be able to shoot at 400 iso or 800 iso.

you say passport type photos? or are we talking like full size A4 portraits etc?

tbh you do not really need that much to take a portrait, you could do it with what you got, maybe invest in another flash, but most of all I would think important is finding an area with a suitable background with some lighting that is not going to cast heavy shadows.

Try practising at home first

sorry just saw the frame etc. so it is like pass port photo size, you should have no problems with some work in PS or some other
