Can anyone tell me which polarizer I should use on my 70-200mm F2.8 IS USM lens? Should I use a circular polarizer or a linear polarizer? Are there different versions of each?

Get a circular polarizer. The best brands are B+W, Heliopan, and Hoya (in general). Buy a multicoated one. You'll still have a big selection to choose from, so it's all about price from then on out :)

Autofocus require a circular polarizer to work. 77mm is a common size so buy a good one as you will eventially use it on other lenses.

Never use a linear polarizer on an Autofocus SLR.

yes .. i currently have the B&W CP and i love it to death .. it works wonders on my 24-70 and 70-200 ... but its quite $$ .. but i said to myself .. since you already spend that much $$ on the lens, why go cheap on the CP .. just my .02
