Stupid question (I think).

Regarding the IEEE 1394 cable that comes with the camera. I don't have any port on any of my PC's that resemble the larger end. What's up?

Sounds like you need to buy a 1394 (Firewire) card for your PC if you want to use that cable!

I have a IEEE 1394 port on my PC but it's a different PIN configuration (it's larger). Probably need a converter.

The one on your PC is larger?

I thoiught there were only two Firewire port sizes.. the small one (as seen on the MkII itself,.. ) and the "normal" one as seen on the other end of the cable provided with the MkII....

There is a third larger plug?

No, I probably wasn't clear enough. The smaller one (4 PIN) on the MKII is the same size as the one on my laptop. So I guess I need some sort of an adapter so that I can connect the 6 PIN end of the MkII firewire cablet o my PC.

or just buy a new cable with the correct terminations, they are available.

I have seen a cable on a website that has interchangeable end to match up with any confoguration. I can't remember the site though.
I bought a 4pin to 4 pin for my Dell and the MKII. $40.

The ADS version is a little more compact. It's the one I use on my laptop PC.

Exactly what is your situation?
The above problem was solved with a cable, hard to steer you in the right condition wihtout knowing your set up.

Does you laptop have any firewire port?
If not, tell us everythuing else about it and maybe we can get you set up.. PacAce links to some solutions.

Lastly, do you need to be able to hook your camera to your laptop at all?
Maybe a USB card reader would make more sense?

I need to tether the camera to the laptop for studio work. My laptop does not have a firewire port, I went and bought a HP PCM card and am now trying to make it work. Not successful yet...maybe a firewall issue?
