I was just testing my 550ex together with my 70-200 F4 L lens and noticed something on some of the photos. Look in the bottom right part of this photo. Below is a crop of the area of interest. What is it?
Exif data:
Tv program
Shutter speef 1/800
ISO 100
Focal length 200

I think that it's crud on your sensor.

Don't think so it is not on other photos.

It must be somekind of reflection?
It does not appear on this one

But it appears on this one, I moved the book a little and now the thing is on almost the entire edge of the book.

I have also seen that effect when shooting with my 70-200 f/4L in bright sunlight...

The last testshot is even worse :(
I know I have just picked a random shutterspeed but it would be nice to know exactly what is causing this. Is it the reflections from the flash or is it caused by the fact that I just choose a random shutter speed in Tv mode?

If I were to make an educated guess, I'd say that it's a reflection of the flash off the edge of the book. To test this theory out, shoot that picture again where the you had a row of that "stuff". Then shoot another picture but this time, cover part of the book edge and see what happens.

tommykjensen,
Looks to me like 2 things going on. In the first 2 pics it looks like reflections "inside " the lens from something reflecting the flash, try to re-position the flash or put some kind of deflector over the flash.
The last photo looks like the texture of the book cover, again, move the flash or put in some kind of softening cloth in front of the flash.
To see if there is a problem with the sensor, take some pics without the flash.
I really think it's just a reflection due to flash position.

I think it's just your flash reflecting off the edge of the book. Both those books look like they have a smooth reflective finish, and a small dent on the edge will make a nice "dish" reflector, happily out of focus, and leaving you with that little "halo" of light.
Focus on that edge of the book and I bet the halo will be a fine point of light.
