Yup. That was one of the reasons I didn't buy for a long time. Seems like the lens is tooo sloppy. Guess that's how it's made. But still a little unsettling.

yeah i'm not really upset about it but that is a bit sloppy like you're saying
this won't be my primary lens now

Yeah mine does that too, I think it's just a cheap lens. :D My zoom lens is also the same way, but I guess we'll have to pay more for better build quality. :)

Mine is like that as well, and the guy at my camera store said not to worry about it - so I don't. Doesn't seem right, but so far, no problems.

yup. I find it really fun when trying to adjust the polarizer.

adjust.
re focus
re adjust
.. focus again.

I plan on buying a 50 mm lense that lets more light in anyway (no a L or anything)

It is true, they could have paid a little more attention to the lens. Especially since it is the first one in the new line of "short" lenses (is that a word?). And yeah, you do have to pay more to be better quality. My 70-300 doesn't wiggle a bit. Now if I had paid IS or L prices and the thing wiggled I would damn sure get it replaced.

But what do you expect from the kit lens? As long as it focuses I don't care if it spins and spits split pea soup.

But that is just me.

Seriously, pretty much all the cheap lenses do this-even the good 28-105 model has side to side wobble. It's allowed for in the optical formula i assume-i did tests once and and couldn't find any difference when deliberately held crokked compared to allowed to sit straight

I haven't really shot anything but testshots with the kit lens and probably won't shoot alot with it.

Hope to replace it with 17-40 L in september.

I'm afraid that is one of he drawbacks of an inexpensive lens which has a mount largely made of plastic. Be gentle with it and I think it will be OK but somewhat annoying.

I did find a quick fix. I bought the 24-70 F:2.8 L lens. It was an expensive fix. But the lens mount quality is vastly better. Only you can decide when or if the issue is important enough to upgrade.
