I think I figured out the answer myself but will ask anyway. Should one remove the UV filter when using a polarizer? I put the polarizer on top of my UV filter today and the shots came out soft. Just curious what is recommended.

I just screw the polarizer on top of the UV filter.

There have been a few reports of some cheap filters, both UV and polarizers, that caused some degradation of the image sharpness. I don't hear many reports about that with high-quality filters, but then anything is possible.
Remember that the polarizer knocks out about two stops of light, so your metering should keep up with that, but if you are on the dim light edge of autofocus possible or not, then you might have gotten into that problem.

They are both Canon filters. I just wondered if I should remove the UV before installing the polarizer. :?

Exactly what does the UV filter do for you?
(1) Shield the sensor from UV light.
(2) Protect the lens front.
(3) Both

Answer: only 2.
The sensor already has a UV filter on it, so protecting the front of the lens with anything will work, but you don't need to have two filters stuck out there for protection.

Yes the answer is #2. I have UV filters on all my lenses for protection. I was just wondering if puttin the polarizer on top of the UV will degrade the picture much. I've decided to just remove the UV before putting on the polarizer. One less piece of glass to go through. Thanks.
